Syracuse, New York – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) is excited to announce Delta Air Lines will add additional capacity and flights to two high-profile Syracuse University Football away games this year to and from Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). The Atlanta-headquartered airline will support S.U. fans looking to attend the Syracuse Orange vs. Tennessee Volunteers game being played in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, August 30th with a larger aircraft on their Syracuse to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) route before and after the game. Additionally, Delta will support fans heading to South Bend, IN for the Orange’s Saturday, November 22nd matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish with nonstop flights from SYR directly to South Bend International Airport (SBN) before and after the game.

For the late August meetup with Tennessee in Atlanta, Delta will upgauge the aircraft on their 12:02 pm flight from SYR directly to ATL on Friday, August 29th and the 9:02 am flight from ATL directly to SYR on Sunday, August 31st. An A321-200 will be utilized for these flights with seating for 193 faithful Orange fans.

In November – the weekend before Thanksgiving – Delta will run a special nonstop flight from SYR directly to SBN at 5:00 pm on Friday, November 21st and a return nonstop flight directly to SYR departing SBN on Sunday, November 23rd at 9:00 am. The airline is slated to operate their CRJ-900 on the special flights, capable of transporting 70-76 Orange fans quickly and directly to and from South Bend.

Great news!

Wonder if the Notre Dame one is sold out already? Just went to delta page as it says in the link and its not showing up.

hard to think a game where tickets have not been sold that the few hundred who will go would all go in the same flight that just got announced.

I just searched it as well and couldn’t find it

It's not up yet, it seems. No nonstop flights at all to ND,

My wife and I are considering doing the overnight train to ND on Friday and back on Saturday night. Has anyone here done that?

We did Albany to Chicago one year to see a Bears game. It was decent. The space for seating is really nice, seats are good size and recline quite a bit. It’s a crap shoot with who might be around you though. Like a plane obviously but considerably more time to be stuck near annoying people. Also like a plane, especially at night it was absolutely freezing trying to sleep. I felt bad for some of the older people in the car we were in. But if you’re prepared in case it’s cold and things to do to pass the time. It was a pretty good experience overall and significantly cheaper, at least when we did it.

I have done Syracuse to South Bend. The party went long into the night and next morning. Do you plan on sleeping?

Yes. My wife won't do it unless we get a sleeping berth. Amtrak calls it a "roomette." She's the one who actually got online without me and priced it out, rationalizing airfare and hotel vs. cost of a sleeping berth. Since Fran's arrival, she's on board with SU football as much as I am.

Do you remember how far campus is from the train station? If this ends up being an 8 pm game, getting back to the train on Saturday night could be iffy.

Sleeping berth would be highly recommended.

I have friends here in Rochester that had kids who attended ND. The train is how they traveled back and forth. They said it was convenient.

Any idea when game tickets will go on sale for ND?

on the ND site

Public Single Game Tickets On-Sale May 29th

Who knows when Su gets their allotment.

Good to know.

I may have to drive up there to catch flights instead of Newark...
