Depth Chart for Wagner

I honestly believe that people need to take a deep breath re: Scoop. Secondary that has not played together a lot and a ton of depth issues regarding distance from the line and play from the safety position did not help him in that game. That is the sort of stuff that can be corrected in the film room.

My gut is that he will regroup and be solid. In addition, Trill absolutely looks to be the real deal. With Cordy getting some more time to get his sea legs under him and Fredericks, I still have confidence in them as a unit...especcially if they can get some more pressure on the QB.

I thought Scoop played well in press coverage. His issues came in zone. Physically, he plays the position the way fans would want. He's not giving 9 yard cushions on third and 6.

I hope not sitting Butler doesn't send the wrong message to Butler and the rest of the team. If one teammate thinks he had a lack of effort, there are many more thinking the same thing. Top that off with not being productive at all, I hope this doesn't make some players question things.

I've always said that Scoop just isn't fast enough to cover fast recievers and he isn't big enough to cover tall recievers. He needs to be strictly a nickle corner playing up against slower smaller slot recievers.

Yeah I thought his man coverage was solid and he did also have a pass breakup

Why in God's name are Butler and Riley still starting at WR?

Because if there is any chance to fix mistakes and build confidence moving forward its against Wagner. If they were to be benched their seasons would be over with. 1 Bad game should not equal the end.

scoop catches the int and he has a solid game other than the 2 long pass plays. People rip butler for not running after balls he never gets to, i am more worried about dropping the marginal throws. It would help if they were thrown on time as well, which is an issue all the time.

to me Riley not running his routes correctly is a bigger deal, he rounds his routes way to much and he plays small on top of it so physical guys really make it hard on him

As bees alluded, the participation report will be lengthy this week.

However, Wagner has a bunch of D1 transfers on their roster. Nevada, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, UCF, Rutgers ... They do have talent. Their running back had 273 yards in game one.

I'd expect a 51-23 type game

Against?

I wish it was one bad game, Brian. Unfortunately, there's much more history than that. At some point, when you flub a game-winning TD pass in your gut or can't seem to haul in a reception to save your life, other players should be given an opportunity. I will say, the coaches seem to agree with you and are giving Riley/Butler another chance. We'll see (again) how it goes. But from my seat, with the ACC approaching, we can ill afford to waste plays on guys who have proven they can't get it done when the lights are on.

Just to play devils advocate. He might be doing better in practice than what we saw in one game. I understand he dropped a game winner but how much run did he get before last year. There is a learning curve here. Coach might have had a man to man conversation saying he needs to run out his routes instead of just pulling him and as was said before ruining any confidence. Dino sees these kids daily and all of them have different personalities. He may be trying to give him as much opportunity as possible.

Well stated, Frederick has Sunday potential and trill is gonna be rolling with him soon on the other side;)

Very true, we are lucky to be getting 2 OOC games before FSU. After the way FSU looked last night, i think the coaches and players are really thinking about the possibilities. Yes, think big. Thus, we need to get out scat in order this week and get guys rolling in the right direction.

Those butler incompletions were mostly on him. Wrs have to run through the ball, qbs throw guys open, throw to spots. Those weren't on ED . Butler doesn't have much field cred as of late after Friday night and the alligator arms at the end of the year last year.

Dino said in his pressor that a bunch of wrs have been worked in with ED to test chemistry looking for someone to step up. JC was the only to do so Friday night.
