I took my daughter to Salt City market yesterday afternoon. The wait to get in was maybe 15 minutes. We ordered stuff from 7 different vendors and took it home to try with my wife, buffet style. The Thai place is really, really slow. We order 3 of the Firecracker Spring Rolls, and it must have taken them 20 minutes to drop 3 in the hot oil to fry them. They were really tasty, but their family is probably the slowest at preparing your food. We had a beef schwarma and a gyro, and thanks to this board, I knew to avoid the sub roll. Both were very tasty, although with the gyro, they could have given less meat, and a little more veg and tziki sauce. The guy was trying to be generous, but it made the sandwich a little unbalanced and dry. The schwarma is cut into pieces and was very tasty. The Asian girls who do the fancy cupcakes did a nice job, kind of like Glazed and Confused; no real ethnic element to the food. The line for the soul food was also pretty backed up, with lots of people waiting for their orders, and had run out of a couple of their main dishes. So, at least they are doing well enough to sell out. That's a good sign. Generally, fun overall, a nice addition to that end of Salina. If they can get that building across the street from both Salt City Market and Hotel Syracuse to reopen, and then get the Central Tech renovation completed with that grant money they got, then this end of Downtown's revitalization could have its anchors. I'll probably wait until we can eat there, next time, and obviously order less food. But I wanted to do as much as I could to sprinkle a little money on most of the vendors.
