For about a decade, the present and former Salina town supervisors fought the Interstate 81 community grid because rerouting I-81 (in other words, giving I-81 through Salina a name change) would lead to the total failure and collapse of all the businesses in Salina, including the Pilot truck stop on Seventh North Street — [I]in Liverpool.[/I] It was on behalf of the truck stop and other businesses that Nick Paro joined the Renew 81 lawsuit attempting to halt the I-81 viaduct project in court. And yet now we are told that instead of being a business powerhouse at the Crossroads of New York State, Liverpool is a “residential village” whose residents wish to “maintain the quality of life” in the village by not having big, lumbering trucks going through their streets, and the same Nick Paro fighting in court to save a truck stop is joining with the mayor of Liverpool to support the rerouting of trucks.
