4-8 for about 50 yards, an awesome rolling out pass down the sideline to Custis called back on holding, a fumble by Pierce on a nice shuffle pass and a couple runs up the middle. How was he a deer-in-the-headlights again? The two sacks? Please...

TD was fine. I don't think the pocket presence is there yet and i'm not sure about the long balls because they were to Butler who looked like he was giving up on his routes. Other than that he was fine. He will need reps and some reliable receivers.

Even my daughter, who doesn't watch much football, commented that Butler could have gotten the sideline pass if he didn't slow down. I wonder if he lost track of the ball.

I think the panic about TD is ridiculous. He was thrown in at a weird time. I'm sure he, and the rest of the offense wasn't expecting to see him in the 2nd. He made a couple nice throws, and had a couple good runs. He also didn't have much time to throw the ball a couple times.
As much as I didn't want to admit it though...he needs to be ready to go at all times, because no way Dungey makes it through the season uninjured.

I think it was more a failure of the guys around him on offense than Tommy. Line didnt do a good job, receivers fumbling and not laying out for balls, giving up on routes, etc.

That and our defense was totally befuddled with the adjustments WMU made at half time. Although they knew not to let anyone over the top on them yet it happened several times.

Tommy Gun is going to be a stud. Dino didnt handle his playing time well.
Go in at half, tell ED great job in front of the team and let them know we are going with Tommy to start the second half. Poor execution by Dino.

I think this did help TD. Now he has a heck of a lot better of an idea on what to improve and work on.

Beyond what his actual stats were, here is something I took away from his play. I did not see any panic. He threw the ball away a couple of times when nothing was there. He ate the ball on sacks a couple of times for the same reason. Compare that to the WMU QB on his several INT 's. Granted, we were up big when he was in which obviously helped his composure.

In my opinion the kid will be just fine.

TD is at a point right now where he can do his job and only his job. For a freshman, that's pretty damn good. Give him another year to learn how to read defenses and control an offense like Dungey and he'll be able to succeed. He's gonna have some good options next year too with Abdul Adams, Trish, the Johnsons, and the outside wideouts finally maturing.

Dungey got hurt

if the defense didnt collapse i bet he finds his groove had he been given more time as the game wore on

Yeah, it would have been nice to see some better results, but the ability is obvious. Those results aren't all on him either. Nobody else made anything happen when he was in.

Very good observations. It has taken a few SU quarterbacks a few seasons to understand the concept of throwing the ball away and not take the sack if you are able to. No deer in headlights, that is nonsense. A player seeing game speed for the first time on the road, yeah. Good learning experience for him. It will make him better. That is good for Cuse.

He's much faster than I thought. Also IMO on Butler, he gets passed next season. Rough start to his junior year.

ED played like a beast and even the average play of TD was a huge drop off.

TD came in with a big lead in his 1st PT in 2 years, and HE didn't do anything to blow that lead. (IE no pick 6's, bonehead plays etc...)

TD will be fine.

That fumble was really a killer. It happens.

So was the Rhinoservais stepping on him after the snap. It happens.

Two of those things happening? That's a bit more rare.

Biggest takeaway, as many others have said, was the poor body language from butler. Looked like he gave up on a few balls and had no intrest. The team definitely had a let down when TD came in and he had some flukey things happen.

Id bench Butlers ass and play someone willing to give full effort. inexcusable
