The Division I Council on Wednesday endorsed several recommendations intended to better support student-athletes, improve efficiency and timeliness in the infractions process, and improve clarity in the transfer environment.

Developed through the work of the Transformation Committee, the recommendations will go to the Division I Board of Directors next month for adoption...

...Finally, the Council endorsed a concept that would eliminate the blanket rule prohibiting transferring more than once. The concept would also implement transfer portal "entry windows," or periods of time in which student-athletes must provide their school with written notification of transfer to be eligible to compete immediately the following academic year.

For winter and spring sports, students could provide written notification of transfer the day after NCAA championship selections in that sport for 60 calendar days. In fall sports, two separate windows would provide a total of 60 calendar days. The first window would be 45 days beginning the day following championship selection and the second would be from May 1 to May 15. Reasonable accommodations will be made for participants in the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision championship games.

Additionally, schools that accept four-year transfer students receiving financial aid will be required to provide financial aid to the student-athlete through the completion of the student's five-year period of eligibility or undergraduate graduation, whichever comes first, unless the student transfers again or enters a professional draft. The student would continue to count against roster and financial aid limits unless the student is medically disqualified, exhausts eligibility, transfers or enters a professional draft.

So 2 each transfer windows for football equaling 60 days 30/30 and 1 each 60 day window for hoops and lax? Players have unlimited transfer rights so literally every year a player may be bought and change schools. Annual Free Agency has arrived for the top collegiate performers every year. YeAh ThAt sHoUlD wOrK ouT WeLl.

Edit: The transfer windows are a positive. No limit transfer will likely turn things upside down.

the allowing 2 transfers and being eligible immediately seems wrong it should be 1 free pass transfer and then 1 only if it is of family/medical concerns

I know people will support this but in my opinion this will be the end of college sports. Student athletics is officially done. It’s sad because such a small percentage will go pro and transferring multiple times will affect a athletes ability to graduate.
Big 10 is discussing unions and collective bargaining. I was originally opposed but this may be the only thing to limit the current insanity that has become college sports.
The other option is that certain schools will break off and be semi-pro. All other schools will transition back to some form of how it use to be.
Sad day to be a college sports fan.

End of the NCAA? How about the end of college sports. What coach would really want to work under those conditions? These are the members of that Transformation Council, of course headed by Commissioner, Greg Sankey of the SEC.

Perhaps it’s time for P5 schools to take away scholarships, make players pay the schools for the opportunity to be on their teams, receive professional coaching, and “develop their personal brand” under the umbrella of the schools who have invested so much.

This is not a good take

Exactly. Makes me wonder how many athletes this really will affect
I think it will impact football the most. Basketball can go pro after 1 year.

Unlimited transfers + NIL = Yearly free agency for the top players.
