I'm not sure how well he was perceived at the end of last year by the scouts, but I have to think he is only hurting himself if the team continues in this manner.

Am I way off?

I don't think Lydon would have been a first round pick. Mali was consistently above him on all boards and went in the bottom of the 1st round. If Lydon is a player that is flawed and can't make it at the next level (Ennis) then he should have left last year. If he is capable of developing a skill set and game that will make him valuable in the league then I think staying was the right decision. I believe his is the later myself.

He was having a hard time at the 3 in college against this schedule, the NBA isn't even an option.

Mal is knocking in 3 points a game. If he's here the team is completely different and likely goes a lot higher.

Those are your opinions.

The only fact is Malachi was a 1st round draft pick last year.

I think he will improve his draft stock no matter how this team does. He just needs to play confidently and continue to develop and showcase the all around game that drew the attention of talent evaluators last season.

Not sure he would have been a first rounder after last season. This season that seems likely to me.

He would have probably gone early second round last year. He hasn't helped his case, but I don't think he's hurt himself that much either.

The Lydon part played out in front of us, his height and weight and quickness are what they are. That isn't an opinion.

I would've bet on Mali to do better than 22 if he stuck round, he clearly thought he was going to last year.

Yes. His skill set is acknowledged, his performance really doesn't hurt it.

This team would be better with Mal, though. We'd have at least 3 less losses, and that's a conservative estimate.

Not sure. We still wouldn't have a PG. White wouldnt be here, but it would still be Battle, Gillon, and Howard playing like garbage.

Saying the NBA wasn't an option is an opinion, not a fact.

Mal > White. Mal is more versatile and a better defender. He could play SG, which White has demonstrated he cannot do, and Mal can dribble a ball decently, which White also cannot do. I think that versatility alone would help immensely.

I agree that Lydon seems to have gained some bulk that has not helped his game. That said I think 10 years from now Lydon is having a more productive NBA career than Mal.

Oh i don't deny that, we just still wouldn't have a PG and Howard/Battle/Gillon would still be getting big minutes.

I'm still concerned about Lydon leaving. It doesn't appear his stock is falling as fast outside of our circles.

Who needs to use facts on an internet message board? We can just say that Malachi would've been a lotto pick this year, since he surely would've thrived playing in a stagnant offense with no point guard.

Its not and likely won't. There just aren't that many potential stretch 4s on the planet. Chad Ford updated his big board today and Lydon has only went from 22 to 23 on it.

Lydon got off to a bit of a slow start for the Orange, but he had his most dominant game of the season versus Georgetown on Saturday, scoring 29 points, grabbing 9 boards and shooting a scintillating 12-for-13 from the field.

If he can start contributing with that sort of drive and energy consistently, he'll move up about 10 spots on the Big Board.

If we're going to be as bad as we all think we'll be next year, I kind of hope he gets the chance to get the hell out of Dodge. You can tell he's trying to put the team on his back but it's too much of a load for anyone to carry.
