Did we get the wrong Griffin?

People are way too hard on Alan Griffin. He helped us win lots of games last year. He was a very good shooter and helped us tremendously on the boards and with rim protection and blocked shots despite being an undersized forward. His biggest issue was between his ears (he struggled with decision making and knowing when to attack off the bounce and when to pull back), and that may have stopped him from becoming a bigger star. He became inconsistent at the end of the season, and things snowballed for him. Fortunately we had Braswell, who was great in the zone, really step up at the end of the season and in the tourney. I’d love to have a seasoned Alan Griffin, with a year of experience in the zone, on this year’s team. More options never hurt. But apparently JB doesn’t agree.

Fact: Alan Griffin doesn't block that Buffalo dunk, we lose that game.
Lukewarm take: Alan Griffin doesn't block that Buffalo dunk, we are on the wrong side of the bubble.

This team could REALLY use AG this year. He's a really good ball player that brought a lot to this program. Shame he ended up on Boeheim's stuff list.

He was inconsistent all season. He was consistent the last four games.

If you take out the last four postseason games, when he really struggled and JB stopped playing him, he was the team’s leading scorer or close to it (I believe Buddy had overtaken him by the end of the season). In the regular season, he scored in double figures in 18 of the 23 games.

AG always played hard and got on the ground for loose balls as much as anyone I’ve ever seen for ‘Cuse but saying he was out of position on defense often is an understatement. I tried very hard not to let myself get mad at him when he was struggling because his energy was always there on a team that lacked it.

If you could combine AG’s athleticism with Swider’s defensive IQ in the zone we would have a hell of a transfer defender on the bottom of the 2-3

Or if you could combine AG’s ability to put the ball in the hoop with Symir’s handle and game control

He was scoreless vs. Northeastern and scored 4-5 points in four ACC games. Andy you can't take out the last four games or the reasons JB wasn't playing him.
