Dino and the GOAT

I'm gonna be that guy. It's a sports forum right! We talk about sports! How would Jim Brown do in today's NFL? Would he still be considered the goat? A serious question. Hang up and listen.

Well, he's like 70, so hard to say he would average more than 80 yards a game. Respectable, but not GOAT.
(Gotta consider the better training he would have received also.)
Reminds me of a question they once asked Mickey Mantle about how he thought contract negotiations might go if he played for Steinbrenner. He allegedly said that he would start by saying "Mr. Steinbrenner, we are about to become partners."

I think he means if you could take him at his prime, put him in a Dolorean, and fly him to 2019, how would he do?
I think he'd be average-good. He was as big or bigger, and as fast or faster than today's running backs, meaning he was a man amongst boys back then, but his size and speed were measured in an era where nobody had the weight, speed training, and nutrition down to a science like they do today. If you took his natural abilities that he played with, and put him on a 2019 training program, he'd be a freak even today in 2019. Probably a bit heavier, and faster, so in that sense, I think he'd still be great.
If you were to plug him in as he was vs today's competition, with the same training regiment he had back then, I think he'd be average-good.
Remember, he was running over 230 lb interior linemen, and 200 lb linebackers, as a 6'2" 232 rb. The competition would be much stiffer today vs. 50's and 60's Jim Brown.

If Jim Brown played in today's NFL, he would be just as dominate as he was back in the 1950's and mid 1960's. Brown was fast and powerful and had a motor that never quit. He ran over opposing defenses who were trying to flatten him every play. Today's defenders are not good tacklers and Brown could and would run through any arm tackle. In my humble opinion, Jim Brown would have a HOF career no matter what era you put him in. Orange Forever!!!!!!!

I wish I could have a dime for every time I said to my Dad. "Look! He's hurt! He's hurt!", because Brown got up slowly from the pile against the Giants, only to have him rip off another 4-6 yards on the next play.

The title immediately had me talking in my head like the SNL “Superfans”, with some “trick post title. Dino IS Da GOAT.“ And the rest of the superfans chime in simultaneously, “Daaaaa GOAT.”

He’d be a second round pick who some team with a BS QB runs into the ground for 4 years and then cuts because “you don’t invest in running backs”.

Different, worse game now.

His size and speed were elite but there were other guys that could match that (Marion Motley was fast beast), but what really set JB above everyone was his incredible balance and his toughness. I say he would still be the best RB if he played today.

If he was 6’2” at 232 with no target training and lineman at the time weighed that imagine what he would weigh and how fast he would be. He would probably weight about 255 to 260 faster and stronger

I get annoyed with these questions. No offense. Lebron James would be an average player if he played in the NBA when defense was allowed.

I understand the sentiment but no he wouldn't. I don't wanna imagine a 2009-2014 LeBron that was allowed to handcheck. And i wouldn't want to be the defender that had to get physical with him.

This is a powerful picture for our program. If Dino leads Syracuse to real and sustained prominence he will be part of the Ernie Davis / Jim Brown legacy. The first African-Am FB HC at SU is a historic role to play.
I love this picture.

seems to me that thin skinned kevin durant would be more likely to suffer in an association that allowed bad boys style defense.

Well, of course he does! ;)

He was Bo Jackson before Bo Jackson and Bo did just fine in the modern league until the hip. So I think with modern training he would have no problem in today's league.

That said Moqui is right though about the off the field stuff.
