Dino Babers statement

Dino is such a class act... He had the perfect statement, said exactly what needed to be said, but didn't take it too far. Proud to call him our football coach.

Wouldn't expect anything less than this from Dino, he continues to be a pillar for the Syracuse football program and this is just another notch in his first class way of conducting business.

Perfect response by Dino.

i had been hoping that he would make a statement. I totally disagreed with those, including a player’s father, who said that addressing the team was enough.

For starters, many SU athletes have had the courage to be public about their stance. For a coach to say “ I will tell you guys this in private but I don’t want to say it publicly” sends the wrong message for an issue as important as this.

Second, Dino is looked-up to. Now, we can have a valid discussion about whether a football coach should be a role model although being one of the few P5 coaches of color certainly qualifies. The bottom line is that many people (especially young people) consider him a role model. A good role model either stands for something or they stand for nothing.

As a white teenager I was inspired by Dr. King and remain so to this day. I cannot even fathom how many more magnitudes of inspiration Dr. King bestowed on my fellow young Americans of color.

Currently, I don’t see a lot of leadership in our country, and on many levels, so it has to come from within. Dino nailed it when he said ” all lives won’t matter until Black lives matter.”

Brent Axe won. Which angers me that Dino even bothered to address the delay.
I feel bad for locals who have to deal with attention monger’s show.
Had zero , nothing , zilch to do with AXE ...

I’m willing to bet that while the players and students were out in the streets protesting they had wished their coach let everyone know he had their backs

Nailed it.

I wanted Dino to do what he thought was right. I don’t think he could have worded it any better. So if he took extra time to reflect and get it just right than good for him. I’m certainly glad he didn’t do a 14 minute video trying to defend himself.

It’s not easy to be a public figure these days. Glad I don’t have to worry about it. If I were king for a day, all social media would disappear immediately. It’s so toxic. But you can only admire how someone like Dino navigates it.

Dino Babers is deliberate and open as a book on matters such as these with his players and staff. Just because he didnt immediately throw a separate kumbaya for us doesnt mean he wasn’t there for those under his care.

Beautifully written statement. Wouldn't want anyone else leading our football program.

PS. Former board "legend" Mantonio popping up in the replies with his narrowminded point of view
unless he keeps having 4 and 5 win season

I like Dino and he doesn’t owe me or any fan a kumbaya on this subject. I’m just saying he apologized to someone and I don’t think it was Axe or the fans

What people fail to forget, Dino is in an Interracial Marriage, he had to process everything and deal with it as a Black man first and then take care of home, I wouldn't expect anything less. He also has a Caucasian son-in-law, those conversations at home couldn't have been easy. Dino did what he needed to do. I am glad he is the Coach, and the Leader those young men are following. This situation was far more complicated than people can imagine...I know because I've had to have probably some of the same ones...Kudos Dino!

Axe kind of sucks. Dino is frickin great. I’d rather have an awesome football coach and a crappy reporter than an awesome reporter and a crappy coach.
I turned into Brent Axe's radio show for the first time in years two days ago because I was driving a car for the day that didn't have Sirius. He was playing Benny Hill music reading goofy names to re-name the Dome...I felt like I was listening to a radio show in 1986. It was such a dated bit and un-funny. I was just waiting to see if he still pulled out his "old man voice" to make the show worse.

How he has a job in broadcasting is beyond me. His sports knowledge is so limited and what he thinks is "entertaining" is cringe-worthy bad.

I'm not local so never listened to his show, but that's pretty much what I imagined it being like.

The only thing this man can't do is hit a straight drive to save his life.

We're so lucky to have him. He needs ALL the support, too.

Superman had kryptonite.

But you can play to your hook or slice.

Advantage Dino. Let's win 8 this year, and see what damage his new staff can do on the recruiting trail, with a revamped Dome or Stadium or Place Where We Play the Games, or whatever we're calling it.

Such a well written, articulate and heart spoken letter.
I wish our Senate was filled with 50 individuals as wise as our coach.
