I wonder what the total attendance at the TUC vs the Carrier Dome is. the TUC has minor league hockey, Siena basketball, a bunch of concerts (McCartney, Springsteen, etc) and stuff like the monster trucks, Globetrotters, trade shows, so it is definitely used a lot more often. Plus each year there is usually some type of NCAA event going on (Womens hoop, wrestling, hockey championships) plus the MAAC tourney. Easily over 100 events per year. I've always felt the Carrier Dome sits vacant way too much.
In a typical year, what does the Dome host?
20 men's basketball games
16 women's basketball games
11 women's lacrosse games
9 men's lacrosse games
7 football games
6 HS football events (they do preseason, sectional championships and state championships)
1 monster truck event
1 concert
maybe a women's softball game/Globetrotters game/hockey game
NYS field band championship
graduation
I have the dome at about 80.
My guess is that the Dome ends up with more. If you use 35K for football and 25K for basketball, 5K for men's lacrosse and 45K for the monster truck show (I believe it sells out every year), that alone comes to 835k.
The TUC averaged 3223 for hockey last year and Siena had 6242 for their basketball games there. The MAAC tournaments (9 events combined, men's and women's) only drew 27,417 combined.
Disney on Ice, Darius Rucker, Dead and Company and Marvel Universe Live! and the like are going to need to need to sell a lot of seats to overcome the poor attendance at the events I could find data for.
But your point is solid. The TUC is used far more than the Dome and that should change. Sala has admitted this and says he is working on addressing it.
