Dino on Packer & Durham at 9:15

Anything new? Or just Dino showing his charm?
Talked about the Oline and how it's hard to get the red shirted and built up. Then you have medical issues and lose some. Has high hopes for next year with all the experience needed.
DC firing: First time he had to do it. Felt it was the best unit on the team and results did not match it and a change was needed. Wanted to give some staff members a chance to see what they could do that's why he did not wait till end of season.
Believes college football committing sent Dabo an early Christmas present with not ranking him in top 4.
Frustrated that we are not consistent this year, mostly due to the elephants.
Talk about difficulties with spring practice and missing sometimes 15-20 kids that don't early enroll.
Seemed to be in good spirits about everything.

Can this be found online? At least the audio?

Interesting comment

Wildhack interview:
Dome on schedule
Facilities are big element in what we are trying to do
Creating the best environment for athletes and coaches (spend our money wisely)
Talked about how good the conference is in various sports both on the field and in the class room

Dantonio would have moved him to OL coach and Cavanaugh to DC.

Not sure I understand why you guys are bent with the comment. I see it as a positive. Sometimes good talent is stymied by poor ideas from leadership. Letting some veteran defensive guys see what they can do over the last 3 games is a positive rather than perpetuating the inevitable. I'd imagine Ward was also dictating personnel to some degree to. Could maybe also be some player changes we don't know about.

I wouldn't worry too much about Dino's comment. no telling what will happen after the season. there was plenty of "Dino never fires anyone" handwringing and then he canned Ward. So, let's have it play out, shall we? I know, I know, it's a fan board, it's what we do ;)

It seems to me as an excuse to "go cheap" on a DC replacement. Maybe Stanard shows some real improvement over the last 3 weeks and HCDB decides to give him the job full time. Then maybe we can spend some money on a stud OL coach and stud recruiter?

Excuse to go cheap? I guess that's an interpretation. Not mine. He's certainly not going to hire a DC with 3 games left and there was no point in keeping Ward through the season. It sounds like you'd be disappointed if Stanard does some good things?

We might hire an outside DC but don't get your hopes up with the ridiculous names being thrown around.

no way he makes the change without talking to Stanard first, and probably some other coaches too. Maybe its scheme, maybe its play decisions, maybe its personal . but the D coaches are not automatic to stay when the new DC comes in. Its a tough spot for Stanard too.. he could do well and stay , do well and go back to what he was doing, or a new DC comes in and changes multiple guys.

what else could Dino do other then become the DC, and what answer to the question would you give about the guys who are here and trying to do the job.

Worst case scenario coaches do improve so hoping standard does well and at worst go back to being a de coach which he is good at.

Agreed and there is nothing long term in his statement. He is testing a few things and then will decide after the season with I would guess Wildhack if it makes sense to find a new DC or make Stanard official. That's pretty much how every head coach in the country would do it.

I took it as “these guys better do better - or they are a part of the problem. My next DC might make the case for their removal too”
