Anything short of pessimism on the part of the writers, and they risk being called "homers." In their position, no choice but to be unconvinced. Most fans don't have that problem.

At this point Dino has to recruit the kids he knows.
And that is apparently what he has tried to do.
It's the right move at this stage in the process.
Obviously he will recruit NYS in the coming years.

I agree that's what they SHOULD do. I just don't believe they do. I think they make their predictions purposefully and cautiously conservative.

I am excited by Babers' offense. I am excited by the perception of a good recruiting class.
Am I the only one that doesn't like hearing about coaches preferences for certain body types? In this article it is mentioned that Brinson and Scott were not pursued by Babers or not as high a priority from the new staff in some part because of their height/size. Certainly there is some benefit to being taller or wider but you have to have talent.
As a Bills fan I have seen them pick EJ Manual and pass on Russell Wilson. The GM essentially said because of the "prototypical" NFL QB size. Antoine Winfield is all of 5'9" 181 and not only a great CB, but also one of the best hitters at the position.
If you have two players neck and neck in your evaluations, pick the taller one if that is a difference maker, but I just hope we are not letting Russell Wilson (Scott) get away so that Rex Culpepper (EJ Manual) can get a shot. Not that I think that is their respective futures, but because I don't want a couple of inches to be the deciding factor.

There can be too much emphasis on the idea that certain types "fit the Babers system".
On defense, his coordinator had only one year with Babers, and was brought in after the 2014 defense at BG was bad. For this 2016 class, the staff recruited solid football players for the defense (light at DT, but touching every other position), with a little more height among the DBs. Can't say these kids "fit the Babers system" -- they could play in a lot of systems. He has a big LB in Ruff and a smaller faster LB in Rashed Smith, and one in the middle in Armstrong -- which one fits, or do they all?
On offense, maybe the new OL recruits are leaner and taller, but it is harder to make a case that the offensive skill players fit a Babers system but not what we had. People throw out the idea of "not a fit" but rarely try to explain -- other than in the debatable case of Linsey Scott.

He said "if you start making exceptions, you end up with a team of exceptions."
For every Russell Wilson you get 25 Andrew Lucks in terms of body type.
Yes he picked a Michigan running back in the 1st round, who had all the size, and other abilities. In the 2nd round he picked Joe Morris, who helped him win a super bowl, so it shows that it's not always about size. Floyd put it right, you can have the size and ability, but its heart that makes you great.

No disrespect to Parcells but his philosophy doesn't hold water. I would take a player based on ability over measurables every damn time. I think a lot of great players were overlooked or under utilized over the years because of this outdated mentality. Besides Parcells made plenty of "exceptions" over the years himself. Joe Morris for one, David Meggett for 2 and probably plenty of others.
That being said, I 100% agree that "if you start making exceptions, you end up with a team of exceptions". The only difference to me is that if you start excluding good football players for bigger football players, pretty soon you have a team with bigger jerseys that can't play football.
And, for every Andrew Luck you have 25+ Ryan Leafs, EJ Manuals, JeMarcus Russell, etc... You only have 32 NFL starting QBs and two of the best (Wilson, Brees) are 6'0" and under. How many others didn't even get a chance because of people like Parcells?
