Dino...u got a mess...

Players leaving are a very unfortunate sign of the times, with that sad there definitely needs to be some looking in the mirror and determining what type of offensive system we are and adapting recruiting to make that work, in addition to finding some capable WRs via the portal. As much as we have had guys leave the portal lets pound it and find guys to help us.

No doubt its going to be difficult to keeping the moral high, we have some great young players to build around but...losing is tough and its been this way for the majority of Dinos tenure.

On the defensive side of the ball you have to like what you see but will need more big guys and depth up front for next season. Now keep Tony White locked up in the basement and dont let him answer his phone this off-season when other schools come sniffing around.

I'm torn on if Dino should stay, our expectations are so low, all our HC needs to do annually is make a framing bow, any bowl. Why is it this hard!

OK Devito gone, Taj gone, Jarveon gone, 2 TEs gone...
A head coach that can't manage a game...
This is starting to "stink".
Or maybe it's not dino that's got a mess, but Wildhack?
This isn't a Syracuse "thing" of kids transferring out during the season. It's the transfer portal opportunity. If a player doesn't feel they are going to get playing time or going to start they transfer out. It's a good idea of not having kids have to sit out a year if they transfer that has gone wrong.

My main concern is we can only replace 7 players if they leave via the transfer portal. Our programs roster could be in big trouble if we have 10 - 15 players leave via the portal after the season.

The NCAA needs to change this rule and allow teams to replace every player that leaves via the transfer portal.

NCAA Council approves proposal to replace up to seven transfers in expanded recruiting classes

As of today we have 68 players who could be returning next season. Granted, that includes a bunch of "super seniors" who may not want to hang around one more year.

That only leaves 17 slots for incoming freshmen / transfers right now before we hit the 85 player cap. We can absorb another 8 departures before we hit the 25 recruit limit, then we can absorb an additional 7 transfers after the season ends.

No need to worry. The NCAA has a plan for situations like this and has everything covered. They always have great support in place to help schools in a pinch. Remember when Ohio State needed a better QB a few years ago and they magically allowed Justin Fields to enroll and have immediate eligibility?

Aware that maybe the “bad late game manager” critique may not be enough to get rid of Dino, a fan pushes “you got a mess narrative” into the middle of the table

meanwhile, the team is playing its best ball since 2018, our RB is about to over 1,000 yds, our QB is entertaining as hell, and we’ll have a legit chance in every game we play

I disagree with this. Allowing wholesale replacement of portal guys would create an even greater disparity between the haves and the have nots. Schools like Clemson or Michigan or Bama could just bring in 25 guys, sort out the wheat and the chaff in year 1 and cut every marginal kid. Then just bring in more top guys and repeat the process.

It is going to take a couple of years to sort out how the new rules apply, and kids will start to figure out the risks and benefits of the portal. We’re not there yet.

I do think, however, that the four game rule should be changed. Now that we have the portal, I think that rule should only apply if you stay at the school where you played the four games. Hopefully that will eliminate kids hitting the portal mid season. That’s just bad all the way around.

Well said.

A lot of folks in here saying it's a sign of the times or what is happening is normal. It's not. We lead the entire country in players that have left since the start of camp. There are some real dumpster fire situations among the 130 teams and we are numero uno at the very tip top of the list.

Can justify a couple kids and say it's no big deal. But it is a big deal when you are at the top of any list, especially one that is harmful to depth.

Well, we're actually only 2nd.

4 kids, or 5 with DeVito [assuming that number is old].

One was a transfer who showed up and left in a week.

Hardly a dumpster fire. And I say that acknowledging that I wish Jarveon Howard had stayed. The rest -- meh, including Taj.

Except when you dig down into each one, it’s not indicative of some bigger narrative. What overarching thing do you attribute it to?

I see a bunch of kids who thought they’d have a different role, which is normal. And a weird OL who tried to play here for a day

I can't debate your statement about leading the nation as I've not seen anything definitive one way or the other. I will say, however, that only Labrosse was seeing regular playing time when they left, so I don't thinknits as critical as you imply.

Maybe those losses are off-set by a few positives? Ellis is one of the better few true frosh linemen we have ever had. Pena had an exciting play. Tucker — on a record setting pace. Shrader — only a sophomore. Defense — aggressive, with a set of young linebackers. Wildhack has a lot to like in what he sees on the field.

I think he had a mess, and he's fixing it.

As long as the team stays together thru this and they flip a couple of these close games, all will be fine.

If we lose the rest of them, even if all close games, all bets are off. Maybe Joe Moorhead will pick up the white courtesy phone. The QB you recruited is waiting for you, along with one of the best RBs in all the land.

Labrosse never entered the transfer portal.

He went home for personal reasons. And he'd be welcomed back next season.

I didn't mean that our team was a dumpster fire. Meant that there are others and we still are at the top of guys lost. Can see that my wording wasn't great there.

Ah, there was a Post-Standard article about it a week or 2 ago and Harris had brought us to a tie for 1st and thought Tommy would have pushed us over the top. Guess FSU is still losing guys along the way as well.

Definitely a ton of positives going on right now. I am absolutely pumped about the back 7 over the nex 2 years.

Where these guys leaving ends up hurting is in our depth and the future pipeline of guys ready to play. May never matter or maybe it will. Not having Morris when Elmore and Benson were hurt was a definite negative because he would have been on the field. Shrader takes so many hits that it almost seems inevitable that he will miss some kind of time this year and Devito is a better stopgap option that Morgan despite most of us being sick of him. Howard we likely won't miss but he was out 2nd best short yardage back though Shrader may now make that irrelevant. Harris unquestionably matters as he was our best WR by a decent margin despite being kind of a .

Well you’ve got some real blinders on… just because Syracuse has 2 more players transfer than most other teams doesn’t negate the “sign of the times” argument I mean each player left for legitimate reason. The TEs weren’t getting the ball thrown to them, Taj knows he needs a good QB to thrive, Tommy isn’t a fit for the offense, one of the linemen was on campus for a whopping 10 minutes and Howard was a clear #3 after being the #2 guy two years ago. When a player like Tucker or Mikel Jones leaves, then you can say we have a real problem but until then players are leaving for legitimate reasons and it’s their right.
