Dino

Coyle just extended Fleck in what will be a first year 5-7 record in a garbage division at a program in much better shape than ours. Welcome to college football 2017.
Like I give a flying **** what that back-stabbing POS does. Coyle can go Fleck himself. Shame on you for using him to support any argument on this board.

you missed the point. Coyle, whether you like the weasel or not, is doing what college football ADs do these days. You believe in a guy, and I think Wildhack believes in Dino, then you extend them early on and try and make it harder for someone to grab him LATER(not now, big programs can't sell Dino after 8-9 wins his first two years here).

Next year is do or die. It's year 3. If ED isn't good enough to get us to 6 then one of his other hand picks QBs better be able to. That fact alone means no extension should be in the talks at all right now. He's on a 6 year deal already.

Unfortunately, I think it takes more than 3 years to dig us out of the talent hole that Shafer put us in. We need to let Dino have 3 full recruiting classes to at least get his own guys in, let them redshirt a year and build some depth. Shafer did a lot more damage to this program than the apologists realize, and it's not something that you can overcome overnight.

I think you are wrong. It's a crutch. DM went bowling and beat top 25 teams two years after the Gerg disaster. He purged what he didn't want and filled the rest with JUCO's or whatever. AET is on NFL practice squads, we are setting passing records left and right. There's a problem with the defensive scheme, not the roster. People keep saying the defense was ok earlier in the year. It wasn't. Backup QBs were missing wide open WRs in the Dome in front of my face. Once we started facing starters, we got rocked.

Pure speculation with zero basis but i do get the sense that Dino would have moved on after this year if possible. History is often a good indication of the future and Dinos history strongly suggest he would move. Coming from a military family its in his DNA. Add to that his love of the West and i dont think he stays if he is offered a top job West, South, or Texas. Having said that he wont be this year.
Florida, Tennessee, UCLA wont be calling Dinos name this year. Neither will A&M if they make a change. So our poor finish has a silver lining.
If im Wildhack i offer an extension this year but with significant teeth. One tgat extends Dino and his staff 3 to 5 more years and comes with a significant increase in this buyout. If Dino balks he will have shown his hand and Wild can start to plan for the inevitable as Dino will either succeed and move on or fail and be let go but the future will be clear. In short Wild will never have more leverage than he has now.

You lost me with the pure speculation and zero basis part.

Babaers did a great job getting juco kids in to fill the holes unfortunately some got hurt.hardly any of Babers recruits are playing yet. The man signed a 6 year contract that's when he should be judged not before ! Until the last 2 games we were a much improved team in every game . You lose your starting qb and it's just to much to ask. Every year we will get better and better until than happy thanksgiving be thankful for the great close games and the Clemson national audience win

Leaving SU for Tennessee Florida UCLA Texas AM would be difficult to turn down. Money recruiting base facilities fan base all superior.

Consistent 7-8 win seasons get him fired at those schools...in some cases laughably because most of those schools really aren’t the big deal that they think they are.

Consistent 7-8 win seasons make him a legend at Cuse. And it’s very doable.

I think this team goes bowling against the 2010 schedule.

Excellent post!!!

Yep the comparison is silly. We were in a very average Big East that year we played two FCS teams and a hideous Akron. No comparison to what we face now, and Shafer didn’t recruit more than a handful of ACC level players for our current gauntlet

I'd like to address a few of your points.

First this SOS stuff. Yes we've had a difficult schedule, but it's 33rd in the country based on actual performances by teams. Here's a few teams with a higher ranked SOS, you may recognize a few of the names:

FSU, Clemson, Wake, NCST, BC, Miami, UL, VT. And out of all of those schools only FSU has a losing record. If you expect us to get better because the schedule gets easier you are mistaken. Our ACC brethren aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Recruiting Battles - How many QBs told Dino no thanks this cycle?

S&C: We played better into the 4th early in the season but the team tanked in November(twice) and is riddled with injuries(twice). I'd say the book is still out on this one.

Relevency: I'm not sure sitting in last place in the ACC makes us relevant at all. Your definition is not my definition.

Style: We also play a style which is giving up unprecedented numbers of points.

Wake/BC - No/Yes. BC is also without a starting QB and are one dimensional with their running game. Wake beat NCST and UL with Lamar Jackson. So unless you think ED > LJ then no I don't think we beat Wake at all. They made adjustments at half-time and gashed our defense. Clawson is 2-0 against Babers and it hasn't even been close.

The rest is speculation. I think I can type stuff.

Well said and yes, the jury is still out . All good points. I just think that as this staff looks to recruit and build depth, they too, are learning what it takes to compete and win at rhe p5 level. :)
