Dino's Game 8 Press Conference | Va Tech

Ellis & Pena: Both out for Va Tech. Jones slowly getting better. More available.

On the losing streak: "I think the biggest thing is you can't compare two teams... This is an opportunity to not let it happen again." They are taking the bye as the closing of the first chapter this season.

“The bye is a close of the first chapter of this season. Now, we’re starting the next one.” Babers says his players are doing a good job putting SU’s three-game losing streak behind them.

The team practiced today and yesterday, usually off-days, to prepare for the unusual Thursday game this week.

“It’s a good feeling… but it means nothing.” Babers doesn’t think Syracuse’s win at Virginia Tech in 2021 gives the Orange any advantage this year.

“The guys are fresher than they’ve been since July.” Babers is happy with the rest his team has gotten during the bye week.

“LeQuint is a versatile player. He’ll be a first, second, and third down player in the National Football League.” LeQuint Allen’s play this season has giving Coach Babers even higher expectations.

“Derek McDonald is really, really good. He doesn’t get his due… he represents what you want on a good football team.” Babers thinks very highly of his starting linebacker.

I'll say this. Win the next two and people will start to get off the ledge.

Lose one of the next two, and the heat remains, probably intensifies.

I'm holding out hope they handle business and get the next two and get bowl eligibility out of the way.

Really wish someone could've asked the basic question - are you happy with the offense and what do you have to do to get it back on track?

Total Offense
Clemson - 281
UNC - 221
FSU - 261

My feed cut out when somebody asked about Joe More's availability. Anybody hear what he said?

Win this game and you come back home with a chance to beat BC to become bowl eligible on a Friday night. That will produce some buzz in the dome whether it's a big crowd or not.

duke had a worse game vs FSU than we did. UNC was the bad one.

I love ya man but this is not true. Duke scored 20 points and was leading 20-17 at half and 20-17 to start the 4th quarter. We scored 3 points.

Riley left the game mid-3rd Q.

I watched the game.
Duke had 250 yds of offense. Once they had to go 1 dimensional they had nothing. Much like we did.

They had 60yd drive , a 7 yd drive and a pick 6 to get the first 17 pts.
after drive 1. They went 7yds, 0 yds, 17 yds. Then went 50 for a FG

2nd half then went 2, 57, -9, 6, 38.

So they had 130 with him the first half. thats not really doing much.

The biggest take from the game is the DUKE D is better so they got off the field better on 3rd down the first half. Once they couldnt move the ball their D failed just like ours did.

Can see it now. 5-4 and the game against Pitt goes poorly. Fall to 5-5. Imagine the heeeeeeeat John and Dino will feel
Eh, I think Dino will feel it, but I'd bet John's three steps ahead as anyone in his position would be.

The thing that keeps him up is probably 6-6 and a bowl loss. Less clear what to do. 5-5? 5-7? Easy - fire and start the process.

They also left point's on the field going for a 4th down inside the 5 yard line. We never even got the ball inside the red zone 1 single time and you’re trying to tell me we played FSU better than Duke. That’s laughable.

That Duke team is night and day better than us.

Quite the roll you are on today. First, with your post how ASU "dominated" UW, when the Huskies won 15-7, even with the Huskies committing 4 turnovers.

Subsequently, your take on how Duke fared no better than us basically against FSU. Duke actually had a lead deep into the 3rd Q until losing their starting QB. We never were in the game after the opening kickoff.

And, Duke had to go one dimensional after their starting QB went down due to injury, while we entered the game as a one dimensional offense with our starting QB and our guru offensively minded head coach.

As PhatOrange mentioned, night and day. Not only regarding the team Duke is comparatively speaking, but moreover, the guy at the helm as well.

I wonder if Peña will be out until the last three games. He could then redshirt this year. No reason to burn his redshirt if he is healthy enough to play the last four games.

ASU dominated Wash.. The stats dont tell what happened.. The Wash QB was sitting under his towel pouting all game frustrated.. Wash won with the pick 6 . had the play before that not gone against them with the refs they go up and win even with all the missed scoring chances..

Duke had almost the same yards as we did the first half vs FSU.. Their D is better that led to the lead.. I said the Duke D is better, The same reason they beat Clemson they got the lead off the D and held it.. Clemson was the better team that day too. Dukes offense didnt do more than us. They had more chances because their D played better.

Turnovers where you cause them is different than turnovers where a team makes mistakes. Both can happen.. Like Neb fumbling 3 shotgun snaps and blowing chances to be ahead of Col and make them chase the game.

ASU physically beat up Wash but they are not a very good team and couldnt bury them. Had Wash had those issues vs Oregon they get killed.

Didnt he play parts of two games?

His injury along with the OL guys is why I hate how Dino handles them.

Just say they are out for an extended period or a long time

They aren't difference makers like Marvin Harrison Jr and they aren't the QB

I had the suspicion weeks ago this is how their injuries would play out

Thought he only got in the one game where he returned a kick and aggravated his injury.

So much for "getting guys back after the bye week".

At this point, it feels safe to say that the weekly recurring names either aren't coming back at all, or are going to remain backups that we hope not to have to use.

I think we've hit the "my team is on the floor" portion of the season.
