Dino's Presser after NC State

That’s a pretty narrow question when your pool consists of the longest tenured basketball coach and 20 years of dismal football coaches.

You’re basically down to Mac, Marrone and P.

Mac and Marrone took the NFL call. P stayed until he was fired.

I guess you have to go back to Danforth getting poached by the basketball powerhouse of Tulane

Yep, that's a nonsense argument. The history is meaningless unless you can prove that there is something we've actually and consistently done over that history to explain the outcome he's claiming.

Love his energy.....but Dino it’s not called a racing car it’s a race car, lol

The outcome is that, as college jobs go, this is a pretty good one. It's only the inherent insecurities of SU fans that cause this kind of angst. Also, don't worry about what you can't control (which is most things.)

SU is a Power 5 program. In my opinion, if the university is willing to pay, which it historically has not, it can keep top coaches. Don't forget. We have never had a program that was consistently good in the new ACC power structure. We don't know, really, where a good Syracuse football program, and an attractive coach, fits in this new world order. I believe that a Syracuse program that is successful and willing to pay at least top half ACC salary can keep a coach it wants to keep.

I said to my brother earlier today, at some point I would expect one of the state schools in need of a new coach to come along and offer Dino a boatload of millions. In no way will SU ever be able to compete with the money a state school can pay. But with money comes pressure, how do you think the Florida State fans are feeling about their head coach today?

He'll have to decide at some point if he wants to stay here for $3million or so a year and field a team in a perfect atmosphere for his game plan or go elsewhere for more money and roll the dice. I'm just happy we have him now, I hope he chooses to stay a long time

I'm hoping when the extension comes, and it will at the end of this season, it will be in the $4M+ range. That's got to give us hope we can keep him.

And here’s where I’m in agreement.
The perpetual “Damned if we do, damned if we don’t” perspective that, IMHO, is totally out of place at a moment like this.
We just won arguably the biggest game in HCDB’s tenure here, becoming bowl-eligible, validating his system at this level, and giving truth to that “faith w/out evidence” thingy. And the prevailing thought on some people’s mind is...”I hope we can keep him”? Really?
That’s some serious insecurity blended in w/ a heavy dose of PTSD.
FFS, can we just enjoy the win/season, w/out the constant “turd in the punch bowl” hand-wringing? Just for now? Sheesh.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that $4 milly.

Dabo gets $6+ at Clemson, and Taggart gets $5 at FSU.
Far too rich for our blood.
We're not a factory program, never was, never will be.

Richt, Fuente, and Cheatrino all get right around $4m, give or take.
That's likely still a bit higher than we'd go - as good as Dino is, these guys all had much better palmares coming into these gigs than Dino did.

Bronco gets $3.55m at UVA, and then you've got Johnson, NardDog, and Doeren at around $3m each.
THIS is the sweet spot for what we need to offer Dino: at LEAST $3m, and ideally more like $3.5M, PLUS a corresponding salary increase for all of his staff.
$3.6m would be a 50% increase over his reported $2.4m salary.
$3m is a 25% increase. I think that's too light.

Throw in a bunch of performance incentives to up the ante if he really kills it.

And also add a LARGE buyout clause, to provide the war chest to replace Dino, if we can't keep him down the road.

Dabo's is $35M, Taggart's $22m - don't need to be that large.
Fedora's is $12m, Petrino $14m, Fuente $15m, Bronco $18m.
Again, this is your range - somewhere in the $12-$18m area for the buyout.

So, if I'm Wildhack, I'm offering $3.5M, with additional performance incentives, and a buyout for $14m, for another 6-7 years (he's already been here 3).

watch out!!! dino may become the new cleveland browns coach. they fired jackson today.;)

He’s building a dynasty. That’s what he wants. No one is gonna stop him.

Its amazing just how many years Taggert fooled the CFB world. He springboarded after dominating against G5 competition at USF, a school with P5 talent in a recruiting hotbed so good that even UM, UF, and FSI leftovers are talented. he goes to Oregon, the biggest mismatch with culture and coach, is average there, and somehow gets the FSU gig.

Welp.....That's what happens when your 100 win coach who beat Brady/Michigan turns around and loses to Temple/Rutgers. It's what happens when MamaVick ruins your program for your winningest coach of all time. It's what happens when you're promised a WCO and instead your get Brian Pariani, it's what happens when someone deserts their dream job for the Bills only to run out of there faster than a shift in lake effect can bury your car. It's what happens when you lose to Akron. It's what happens...just saying.
