Some would say that Sherm is the best in the ESPN era, but the Pearl is definitely the the standard where all guards at the Cuse and the BE were judged on. But let's talk about all around. Defense, passing, driving, shooting. We have been fortunate to have had GMAC, Andy, Dave Johnson, Lawrence Moten, Sims, Hart, etc, but it just seems like when Dion is in the game this season he is so much better than anyone else out there. I know it's only been 15 games this season, and I'm not an NBA scout, but I think I know major league talent when I see it.

He's probably the best at getting to the basket.

I know one thing, it's got to be super demoralizing for the other team to see Dion get off the bench to check into the game.

His confidence is so high right now, I'm starting to think he thinks there isn't a guard in college that can check him...and he is probably right.

How is dion's jump shot? Not many 6-3 off guard guys in the NBA that can't shoot. He isn't a point guard. He is talented but his NBA skill set is limited

I'm trying to get on the Waiters bandwagon but it just keeps moving faster and faster.

In his last six games he is shooting 64%.

Flynn was pretty damn good at getting to the rim but Waiters is much bigger. Some of Dion's drives laying it up gracefully avoiding contact or a charge are just awesome.

Agree, but Johnny got to the rim with the best of them. The UConn 6 OT game was a clinic.

Since Pearl...;)

I didn't count Pearl as I thought he meant more current guys.

better shooter than Tyreke Evans by a landslide

I like Dion, but Sherm is the man.
I watched the 1988 Pitt-Syracuse game that was being replayed today. Wow did Sherm look small (and in reality he was small). Sherm will always be one of my all time favorite Cuse players, but Dion is so much more explosive. Sherm had the nice finger roll finish on break-aways, while Dion has the "take off from 10 feet out and slam it as hard as you can" finish.

We are watching the rapid evolution of one of the best guards in SU history. If he sticks around for 1 more year and works on developing a deep and consistent 3 point shot, then watch out. He needs to model his game after another 6'4'' guy with the initials D.W.

Was DeShaun Williams 6'4"?

Just kidding.

Pearl was allergic to defense, but then again, this was in the pre-3 point shot era when you didn't really have to shadow someone 20' away from the hoop.

I like him, but lets see him do it in the meat of the Big East season and the post season before we crown him the best guard on the team currently much less the best in the modern era.

In the last 7 years, per Pomeroy's Offensive Rating, DW (120) is the best offensive player we have had... aside from Southerland who has an astonish 142 offensive rating. Rating declines with usage and DW is used much more than Southerland.

Oops and KJo who has a 122 rating. But aside from those three, no one has broken 120.

Agree with Pfister. I like him, but way too early for something like this. Pearl, Sherm, Moten, GMAC (even Allen Griffin and Laz Sims) won allot of big games (not to mention championships).

Lets see if he's as dominant (consistently) against top competition.

Dion reminds me of a poor man's D Wade. And I'll take that every day of the week.

I love Dion's floater. We have seen it every game. Just a teardrop. He has that shot mastered to perfection.

I am on board. I think we are seeing one of the best players in college basketball come off our bench. If he stays next year (I think 10% chance), he should be a National POY candidate. He's the best player we've had since Carmelo in my humble opinion. I wouldn't trade him for two Jonny Flynns.

Let's see what happens when defenses start consistently double-teaming him. If he continues to thrive, we will know that we are truly witnessing a special player.
