Dion Waiters

He should have started at some point while at SU.
I think Boeheim kept him on the bench to keep him hungry and engaged.
Seriously, SU never had a better 6th man.
There is a video interview on Youtube where Dion talks about his time at the Cuse and how he used to tell coach B. and Hop. that he was the best guard on the ... in, team and none of them could check him...and at one session, he cursed at Coach B. then went out on the court and killed whoever was guarding him with like 8 straight buckets. It is a very interesting interview...!!!

Dion was awesome. His numbers don't even begin to tell the whole story. He was literally a one man press break. He didn't even have to hurry, no one was taking the ball from him.

It didn't translate to the pros, but he was so good at blitzing passes at the top of the zone.

He had a few good years in the league. He was very good in Miami for a while. Let me look up his stats.

Damn, man, he had 8 seasons averaging better than double figures.
Career: played in more than 400 games, average 13 PPG and shot 34% from three.

saw Waiters at the is8 in Queens. Playing against Tobias Harris and others. Was with my dad… he asked which one Waiters was. Next play he caught a two handed and 1 alley oop with his head above the rim. Hello Mr. Waiters. But that aside, with Waiters, we were on the side of many, many games that were over by half. Miss those days.

The turning point in his NBA career was when he sprained/broke his ankle just before the end of his first season in Miami. He was the team star at the time and his stats showed it. Led the team from the dead almost to the playoffs. And would have it not for the injury - they barely missed the playoffs.
The fans were in his pocket, coaches loved him, Pat Riley loved him, teammates loved him - he had it all literally.

Then the injury happened and that was it. Had surgery, couldn't play for almost a year.
Trust seemed to be broken between Dion, the team and coaches. Fans turned on him.
Complained about lack of playing time. Actually his numbers in his third year were pretty good.
Anyways this is where his mental issues and poor judgement reared his ugly head in year 4 and that was it for him in the NBA. Only played 3 games year 4.

And only 7 games the following year for the Lakers though he got a ring.
. I always thought that was Lebron doing him a solid considering he ran him out of Cleveland.

I meant specifically the steals.

Crazy part was he wasn't wrong. They were just so loaded and JB was always going to differ to the older guys.

It is too bad that he is not in good enough playing shape to be part of Boeheims Army.
I would love to see him on the court again.

The second five of the 2012 team is a Top 10 starting five in program history.

Dion is probably my favorite player of the past 20 years. There was that edge where you felt he could go off the rails and get suspended or something at all times. I remember Hopkins referring to his entering the game as “releasing the Kraken” and a wise suggestion here on the board that he should be kept in a straight jacket and Hannibal Lecter mask when not at the dome, he would just be wheeled from his dorm/cell on a gurney and then unleashed for game time only.
