"Because at the end of the day we have a great team with good chemistry on and off the court. I don’t want to be the cancer on the team, basically. My attitude changed. The way I approached the game changed. And my respect for Coach Boeheim has changed. At the end of the day, it’s life and you learn. That’s basically what I did."

Wow...proud of him for the changes hes made. Great to see kids grow into men.

Thanks for pointing that out. Good for him. When people are that blunt in their self assessment, i'm more inclined to believe they are sincere - that seems sincere to me.

he was happiest yesterday after his tip pass in the 2nd half, forget who got the dunk

the play he had late in the 2nd half where mcw dove for the ball, passed it to an open dion under the backet, then dion willingly gave it up to james for the slam was a completely unselfish and great play

Dion's example will be used whenever we have a freshman with a poor disposition.

He and Fab have made incredible progress in the last year. Reading his quote in the Poliquin article gave me a warm fuzzy...not just for the team but for him as well. I want him to help win a championship for SU but want him to be remembered fondly for his life and career. Well done, Dion.

Have to give the kid credit for recognizing he was a big problem last year, manning up to it and doing something about it. That attitude not only helps the team but helps him get where he wants to be moreso than last years way.

Yup, best of everything.

Whether you like or hate Poliquin, these are the type of articles that he is best at, and, I'm sure, prefers to write.

Particularly telling in that article is Dion's use of the word "cancer." His body has changed, his temperament, for the most part, has changed, and his game has elevated. Hopefully, driving that change is what he is thinking in his head (I have some expertise in this area). His spontaneous use of the word "cancer" suggests that he has been told (most likely by JB) that is what he was, or was in danger of becoming. More importantly, it looks like Dion has taken that to heart. Very difficult thing for anyone to accept and do, let alone a 20 year old with a huge ego.

The real litmus test for any significant change in attitude comes when the individual is placed under stress; in Dion's case, that will come if the team starts losing and/or if he thinks he is not getting enough minutes/opopportunities. Let's hope that his evolution continues because I think this will play a major role in this team's ultimate success over the season.

So true. As much as I like the quote, and like where he's trying to get himself too, I hope he can continue it when we lose a game. Because as wonderful as it might be to think about, we are most definitely going to lose at some point this season.

I think it was probably more Scoop reinforcing what JB was saying that got to him more than what JB was saying alone

As I said under Bud's column, those quotes from Dion earned my respect even more than his improved play! As NKR1978 said, post that on the board for every incoming freshman to absorb.-VBOF

On some level it is hard to imagine but someone probably said "dion if you just listen to him, show up and go to work, he can make you a lottery pick...without him you will toil in the NBDL". Dion just had to realize what he "could" be and who "could" get him there.

The bets thing about rooting for a college sports team is watching the players mature, on and off the court.

The most frustrating thing is when they don't.

I agree. The 4+ year kids especially. It's been fun watching Scoop and Mookie grow up.
