I have directv, they are pushing to convert me to the new Genie product. just trying to understand how the pricing works..

currently i have 6 dvr's but due to my primestar legacy I only pay for 1 dvr fee.

with the new genie service just wondering how the costs go up and what happens to my non dvr rcrvs.

I just got a genie about 6 weeks ago. I had to send them back my old unit (HR23?)

Just looked at my bill, they are going to bang you $3 for the whole house dvr service, and they will bang you $10 for advanced DVR receiver fee

$3 for Whole Home Service
$6 for the primary DVR
$6 for each receiver

You can negotiate a monthly credit for the Whole Home Service, addition receiver and the Primary DVR, at least for six month if not a year. You should also negotiate a free or highly discounted NFL Sunday Ticket.

I still cant understand how they get away with $6 per rcrv fees.

Because people will pay it instead of moving to cable or Dish Network, but, yeah, I hate them too. I still remember buying the receiver directly and gettiing a lifetime subscription.

Yes I remember buying the receivers also...from the hardware store. Actually still had them until we moved into our new home and I was shocked that I was going to have to pay a monthly charge. We have four receivers, but we slaved some to additional tvs.. don't care if the same programming is on in the sunroom and the kitchen as I'm the one watching those. The charge on the primary HD receiver is shown as a credit back every month so only paying "rental" for 3 receivers.

As to Dish you are wrong about not having to pay a monthly charge on the receivers. I have a cottage in VA and have to pay $7.00/month on those dual (2 tv) receivers.

I have a monprice.com HDMI splitter and have line running through my family room to the garage tv, so I saved myself another receiver fee. However, can only watch the same show as the main tv.

And I didn't say you didn't have to pay a monthly fee on Dish receivers, just that people don't like moving around so Directv, and Dish can get away with it. It sucks. You can, though, negotiate credits that can get rid of them for 6 to 12 months.

Sorry.. misunderstood your comment on Dish.

I think if someone looked at my "tv board" down in the basement they would be shaking their heads as I have several splitters and lines going on because each tv also has a backup feed to the antenna hanging inside my attic. Yeah "TV doomsday prepping".
