Random thoughts flying back home

This has always been a mystery. Why pay to be a sucker? Is being a dupe fun? If you want to take financial risk, take an accounting class and invest in legitimate companies. Over a lifetime, anyone competent should clear 7 figures in profit. That is a lot more fun than hoping to beat the odds in order to win peanuts. Please explain the appeal. If you like Vegas buy casino stocks.
This would be my explanation. (Poker Player)

This week I spent $300 for game tickets and had fun (but was tortured) why would anyone do that to themselves? Could have watched on TV free. We do it for the thrill.

spent $300 at Spago and had a nice time (but as nice as that was, still feels like a rip off). Who would spend $300 on food I could buy for $20? We do it for the experience and to make the wife happy.

if I lost $300 at the poker table but had fun, no sweat, to me, its all entertainment.

If you are addicted and cant stop playing and losing, you have a totally different problem, but that’s a different discussion.

I generally do not like to play games against the house. In poker you’re playing other players and you could take money from the tourists. Harder to take money from the house..

No accounting class needed to invest.

I think the only way I'd feel like a sucker or a dupe is if I looked back one day and realized I spent my whole life doing boring sh|t.
Hitting the number in craps is just as fun to me as being at a Cuse game when we score a touchdown. Running around, high fiving strangers. Except for the last decade, I've rolled the number way more times than we've scored touchdowns.
Chasing a bonus on a slot machine with partner can be a riot.
I cant even try to explain the feeling I had when we were in the high limit room playing $500 hands of baccarat the other night.
I don't know, seems way more fun than staring at a line graph, hoping apple has a good quarter lol.

Dogecoin sez hi! Lol

The only no fun time was having to do something else at the expense of another and then going home.

Unfortunately, I suck at gambling. I can't have fun when I don't know what I'm doing...and I have such bad luck. If you see me watching you, fold and go to a different casino.

Thanks for the explanations. It was an honest question and I got honest answers. Each to his own. The point I want to make is that there are many ways for thrill seeking. Not comprehending the thrill of betting does not mean that ones life is any less thrilling. Those that prefer certain types of sporting activities tend not to understand other types.

Footballs been tough as ever this year to win. Couple small win weeks but only one I got ahead was us vs UNLV. Was a throwback to clear a few large last weekend. Wasn't going to give it back either and my wife didn't show much interest in the bets. Time moved too fast to really gamble as well not sure where or when we would have. It also sucks that MGM has gotten rid of parlay tickets/cards. I loved pencilling in those boxes. Especially the automatic loss pleaser cards where you give 5 points on the spread and can have a 10 dollar 5 teamer pay thousands or something. Every time every pick would lose with the wonky odds but once I hit one of those at Mandalay and had to fill out tax forms.

Week 0 I decided to not pay attention bc I wanted to be outside and enjoy the water and beach and didn't cash out New Mexico moneyline and cost myself thousands had it with GT over FSU and another dog that won. If I just let my friend drive the boat I would have done that. I got to the car and they were up 6 with 90 seconds left and Montana St marched it down effortlessly. Haven't come close to a good week since. NFL it seems like a guarantee you just go .500 every week.

Other side of that is I haven't had a big loss in years just small deposits of 100 or so. Been really bad at picking NCAA tournament games games since the 2021 run with Buddy and Kadary however I think I am picking those games around 25-30% I've been that at awful last 3 tournaments running. And don't get me started on who has won the last 2 just disgusting.

Being able to bet on your phone is nice but I miss being able to win back when you had to travel or use illegal methods.

There is a chance you might see a light rail or monorail in Onondaga County. There is a private company reaching out to municipalities.
We’ve heard this story before

I am bored and need something to keep awake. So here are some thoughts on my weekend and SU football in general.

Vegas is a strange place. So much to do. It is a foodies paradise. I didn’t really take advantage of that this. I did visit the In and Out burger joint close to Allegiant before I left. My burger tasted fresh. The beef was good, the lettuce and tomato were solid. It didn’t change my life and I think a Five Guys or Shake Shack provide about the same high quality burger. It was relatively cheap. Impressed with the drive through layout, which looks to be years ahead of what we are doing in CNY.

The monorail and tram were cool and made me wish we had one in Syracuse.

There were a lot of homeless people around. They all hung out on high traffic corners with traffic lights. They were not aggressive. But some walked around in traffic pretty boldly.

Speaking of traffic lights, the lights in Vegas seemed like they took longer to change than in any city I have ever been to. Orlando has been dethroned. Congrats!

Let’s talk about UNLV fans. They were unusually polite and respectful before the game, and the ones I talked to were also quite confident they were going to win. But they were cool and not confrontational at all.

As mentioned, they were not very loud. Even when they took the lead and almost had the game secured. I talked to a couple after the game and they were impressed with how many fans we brought and had a passionate our fans were.

A couple mentioned the refs and thought they would have won if the refs called it both ways. Not sure they had good memories.

I was impressed with the UNLV offense and think they will win a lot more games this season. Would not be surprised if they win out. Their defense is more suspect but they have a couple studs there and it should be good enough for most of their opponents. They have very good team speed and are well coached.

Sorry to see what happened to Grayson McCall. Hope he makes a full recovery and does not subject himself to more risk.

It will be interesting to see what happens with NC State this week. They got off to a bad start last year as well and eventually settled in and finished strong. Hard to do that with a true QB but we will see.

The warehouse where Battlebots is filmed is on Koval a few blocks south of where I stayed. Cool.

Another hotel with no normal soap but that body wash they keep pushing on me. I don’t like it. Not gonna buy it. I used it but I don’t like it. Did the major hotels all buy stock in body wash? Someone needs to investigate this.

I used Turo for the first time on this road trip. It was a little funky but cheaper than the big car rental places and it was nice to have an alternative. I will do it again. Not a paid endorsement but it worked well for me.

Wish it was easier to walk near the Strip. Getting from MGM to Excalibur, to go from monorail to tram, was not as easy as it should be.

It is easy to walk on Fremont but with the sleazy girls dressed up like showgirls trying to pose for a picture with you and all the NYS Fair midway type folks there and the ever present smell of marijuana in the air, it wasn’t a great experience. Maybe best for people who are partaking in the ganja?

The longest walk I have ever had between gates for connecting flights was at the Minneapolis airport today. It is a good thing there were 3 hours and 45 minutes for me for me to make the journey. Walk walk
Walk. Ride ride ride ride. Go up a
Floor. Go down a floor. Turn 180 degrees. Repeat. The people were all
Minnesota nice though.

From reading posts on the board I see a bunch of people I have never met were at the tailgate and I did not have a chance to meet up with them.

I just want to say I really enjoy meeting people from the board, or seeing people
again I have not seen for years. Want to encourage people to say hi. I only bite when extremely hungry and that is rare with our tailgates. ;)

I also want to apologize to anyone I offended with my in game alternate personality. I have never really met him and can’t really control him but I ask my friends to try and keep him out of fights and out of jail. Props to my peeps for doing that at the UNLV game.

Woke up after the game feeling exhausted with an extremely blown out throat. Very happy I was not in jail and had zero black eyes.

I think this thing is kind of like the catholic gift of tongues except the new language is trash talk.
Just got back last night. Drove to Utah before returning. If you haven’t been to Zion and Bryce National Parks I highly recommend. Nothing more than a spiritual experience.

“Nothing less”. Still groggy from flight.

Yeah, that’s gonna happen.
