Class of 2027 DL Haleem Muhammad (PA / JUCO) Still committed for 2027

Umm…so you are taking the stance that is always the schools fault when kids don’t make the grades?
Yeah not everyone can go to JD or FM. I think you might be looking at this situation through a unique lens if you don't think the schools have a role in these situations. We're talking about core competence not calculus and physics

Unfortunately wouldn't hold your breath on either one of these ultimately ever suiting up for the orange. Darn shame schools have failed these kids that they can't qualify out of high school, pretty sad

Or maybe Gibbs is coming off a pretty bad injury in HS and needs more recovery time before his NCAA clock starts.

I guess you would have seen this if you bothered to read the Gibbs thread.

Maybe your school let you down?

Haha you are really funny. Thanks for the unnecessary dig.

I was more so referring to Mohammed needing three semesters to qualify, literally enrolling very close to Penn State backyard.

As to my schooling, I don't think my educational programs let me down. Cornell undergraduate. SUNY Syracuse medical school. Residency and Fellowship at MUSC in Charleston SC. But nice try.

You also said that neither Muhammad nor Gibbs would ever play here, and accused them both of being unable to qualify.

If you're going to call out the kid who needs three semesters, don't drag in the kid who'll be here in one semester.

Um no I didn't. I said don't hold your breath. Not the same thing. And both have academic issues if you read the article. Seems like you have reading comprehension opportunities

Pretty simple in general the educational system is a dumpster fire:

Thirty-seven percent of twelfth-grade students performed at or above the NAEP Proficient level on the 2019 reading assessment, which was not significantly different compared to 2015, the previous assessment year. The percentage of twelfth-grade students performing at or above the NAEP Proficient level in 2019 was 3 percentage points lower compared to 1992, the first assessment year.

37% ... at or above ... that is atrocious and inexcusable ... the educational system is broken and has been since the advent of the board of education.
What about his district? What’s his family support like? Is he putting in the requisite effort or just assuming that as a star athlete he’ll get by? I’m not saying that his school and teachers don’t play a role in this, but I’m not willing to absolve him of any fault without knowing more. To make a blanket statement like the school district is a bit disingenuous without more specific information.

I’m not absolving him of fault but the quality of education in this country is in the toilet. I went to a very small public school with limited resources and made the most of it for two reasons: a.) my parents and b.) I had a very influential teacher in high school who ruthlessly prepared me for college.

Meh. Some of the dumbest people I know are MDs and PhDs.

Me too lol. But that doesn't mean the education system failed them. In fact I would argue you essentially just made my point for me, thanks!

I think this is a two-sided problem. Yes, schools are not doing a great job. Many are more interested in social change than teaching basic skills. However, blaming teachers and schools does not look at other problems. The complete collapse of the home is a major problem. Teachers everywhere will point back to the lack of support from the home. Often, parents are not holding their kids responsible to do their work. So, the kids don't do their work. And often in homes the one parent there is so overwhelmed that she (usually) is unable to keep up the kid's school responsibilities.

Maybe as much as anything this where we should be glad for Fran's outspoken emphasis on his players learning to be DART in all areas of life. Learning as men to take responsibility for their role in the home is one of the greatest needs in our country.
