Yeah I admit, that the history of the phrase is problematic and probably shouldn't have been used. I think it's a good step to apologize and not wear the shirts again.

"As Indigenous alumni of SU, we urge that this matter be addressed immediately. Any use of the phrase “burn the boats” should cease. The entire men’s program staff should be mandated to attend cultural competency trainings. Above all, the program and Odierna should issue a public apology and Odierna should be held accountable for his poor lapse in judgement."

Eh I have done more research and tend to agree with you now, as for ditching the short and apologizing, that was more so me wanting them to just move on before this causes more issues, I have no strong opinion on the shirts.

Cortes died 478 years ago...Odierna was apparently alive then so he should've known better.

All year long people have been talking about how offended they were by these shirts. The chatter has been relentless so I'm glad it came to a head.

I'm going to go hug my emotional support stuffed animal and retreat to a safe space on the nearest local college campus to get over this. I'm devastated. Please keep in mind to use my preferred pro-nouns if you respond to this (those/these).
