I’d agree about “moral victories,” except with the caveat that being ranked matters to me. Part of it is a confidence thing, part of it is a fan thing, part of it amid a recruiting thing, and part of it is a national narrative thing.

Half the teams in CFB lose each week we'll get ranked if we win enough but its hard to get ranked early in the year when you start so low. If we had played Wake or UNC today and won and are 5-0 we still might not crack the top 25 in either poll.

If we had gotten past Clemson today the wheels might have come off at some point this season. But assuming we won the next 2 that would be nearly a month where we'd be talked about as a team that controlled its destiny in the playoffs.

But get to the bye 5-1 and I am happy its what I wanted and hoped for before the season.

We want to be ranked period but its actually pretty important that we finish the year in the top 25 in both polls. We can't be started seasons needing 50 teams ahead of us in the standings to lose to move ahead of them.
