Do we have enough down low?

Diagne it.
What makes anyone think Diagne would have been a better rim protector than Chino? No rim protector is our biggest glaring weakness and i dont really think a freshman would have solved that. Ie what did rak, fab and dc2 do defensively as freshmen? Not much

I saw Diagne play in person quite a bit. He's built like a truck and cannot be easily moved out of the post. He also has good ups and was an above average shot blocker. Chino isn't a rim protector at all. Diagne would have been. And Diagne has a solid offensive game. Oh and did I mention he's essentially ambidextrous.:bang:

Yeah i only saw him play in that state final that briscoe dominated. I did not see him as a better center prospect than rak or fab or dc2 and those 3 had little defensive impact at center as freshmen. . But you did see him more than me so i will defer to you

Yah, that state final wasn't a representative performance. I'm not sure he would've been a big impact defender in year one but he does have a very mature game on both ends. It really is unfortunate he's not in Orange.

Im sure ull agree: Hopefully he will be!!

I was just thinking, this team reminds of the Duke team two years ago. A lot of shooters, not much inside production or defense. Best down low man was a 4 (Jefferson). They won a lot of games outscoring people and lost to teams who could throw it down low (like us in overtime throwing it down to grant). They even had stud freshman like we do with Mali. I like that comparison a lot, ill pat myself on the back. Thoughts?

To answer the question, no I don't think we have enough down low. I think it will be a sore spot all season.

Defensively yes, but they had Parker who could dominate down low on O

Not saying we are a average rebounding team but...
The team we played today missed 46 shots we grabbed 33 of them.
You get the same thing last game they missed 36 shots we grabbed 23 of them
Both games missing 13.
They also put up 26 and 21 turnovers that is a big part of that.

I think Malachi may be as good of a rebounder at sf as Gbinije.

Lydon only had 1 in 26 minues meanwhile, Obokoh had 6 in only 15 minutes. If obokoh is so much worse then lydon at center how come he pulled down 5 boards and the reason I make that argument is because I really want Lydon to join roberson and become a weakside shotblocking presence. He just hasn't figured out how to use lateral movement for a shot blocking advantage yet.

What gets me the most about them is they aren't grabbing a ball that comes hard of the rim and Lydon does alot of tipping instead of just grabbing them. For some reason he doesn't get both hands up to snatch the ball out of the air yet.

Would have loved to see the halftime boxscore I think we may have rebounded much better the first half.

Giving up 13 offensive boards the first two games isn't all that good or bad but let's see us give up 18-20 and see how we respond a week or two later before we really meltdown.

The middle is going to be an issue all year. This team reminds me of Pitinos Providence teams. We're are going to take the first decent look we get from 3 and not look back.

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking, Pitino ball. Donovan, Brooks, Lewis, Screen, D Wright, and Conlon could all shoot the 3 and I think we might have a better shooting group than that. Kipfer, Duda, and S Wright weren't exactly Ewing, Mourning, and Mutumbo either but that team made it to the Final Four in '87.

I might have some facts screwed up but I'm close.

I'd rather not play 4 on 5 on offense, but it is what it is.

We haven't driven the lane much with Chino. Putting him in the lowpost isn't going to change our perimeter offense any and who knows he may be able to grab a board or two and get their big guy in foul trouble. Today we settled for jumpers.

I think the 4 on 5 this year is a wash, being we do so much from the perimeter and off the perimeter drive. I think we could be better shooting 3's with Dajuan in as he he could be better grabbing hard rebounds off the back rim that Lydon and Obokoh won't.

I don't want to see Gbinije play more then 10-15 mpg at forward but this team really hasn't been driving much. We could use 1 game with Gbinije at Forward and pounding the ball inside all game, with Lydon only playing offensive rebounder. Would make a good statement for this team, rebounding and getting to the line.

We have seen the assists 22 and 23 with 5-6 pg's and the 5-6 three point shooters what about the 5-6 guys to pound it inside. Still waiting to see Dajuan give Roberson a high screen he should be able to drive better against a center.

Not worried about scoring. We won't need much of it from the 5 and the multi-dimensional permimeter game should open things up.

Not worried about rebounding. Coleman and Robertson are good off he boards and Lydon under-rated.

I worry about defense and depth. Bur we can help the interior defense by denying penetration out front, something we did not do well last year.

First, Orangefan13, you are posting like a bandit this year! (What does that expression mean? Maybe I should have said "posting like a gerbil? Posting like a mailman? Posting like a fence?")
Anyway, I LOVE it!

But, what did your last sentence mean? Are you expecting us to melt down? The team? Do we HAVE to melt down? I would prefer not to if possible.

If you include Roberson in "down low," I think we're going to be better than some expect [judging from this thread]. But post depth is going to be an issue all year long.

Our team is built like Notre Dame was last year. Hopefully we can have similar success.

Don't forget about Lydon. I was impressed with his overall length. I pictured him more like 6-7 or 6-8, he looks every bit of 6-9, freakishly long arms, and and an active body. There might be a couple games where because of foul issues we are at a disadvantage, we have one legit center, a mediocre but improved backup, and guys like Roberson and Lydon that can fill in. Looks like Lydon is playing that position now a little so Boeheim must be auditioning him to see if needed he or Obokoh will play quality minutes in the backup role.

If his handle is any clue, it's probably all those raging hormones needing to be channeled into something constructive.

His handle? Where does it state how old he is? Is he 22? 14? All I know is he created my avatar and I love him for it!
