if not, the limited attempts in the air, and esp the targets of Ish, could be troublesome

This is wearing thin now.

Yes, we are 2-0 but that shouldn't end discussion.

Keep posting it if you feel you must, but I just wanted to let you know as one of the more "rah, rah" types on this board my thoughts on seeing this now in every thread.

Cheers,
Neil
Have a nice life.

Cheers,
Chris

He said he was holding back because he wants to limit Dungey's mistakes. I don't love it. We need to spread it around now so that when we get to the better teams we have some experience there.

The rest of college football 'opens it up'

We close it up and go conservative

I am just hoping it was because this was ED's first P5 game. But the real test of that theory will probably be LSU a game where I hope they pull out every trick in the book to try and win.

Neil

I suspect lester will give dungey more and more responsibility as the season progresses. Hes bringing him along slow but if dungey plays well it will speed up. Dungey looked great in the second half but we still havent seen if he can pick apart a defense and string a series of passes together.

4pt game in the 3rd Qtr. defense putting on pressure, why start chucking the ball all over the place limit the chance for him to make mistakes.
I did not like the way the half ended, but Bullough always seems to make good adjustments for the 2nd half.
Lester will show more when the time is right, plus we did not run a lot of plays.

This. Lester feeds Dungey a bit more next week and by LSU opens the whole can of ammunition.

Do I think knowing how important this game was to get to a bowl, with the potential to lose the game based on the performance at the half... did we limit the playbook so people don't know what we are going to do???????

I'm baffled at times by things people post.

You raise two different questions, attempts and tricks. I think they didn't call many passing plays because they are conservative and didn't trust Dungey. There is no excuse for either of these reasons in future games: the staff needs to call more passing plays.

We clearly have more. We used the Elmhurst WR Jet option play. The WR was in motion and the QB had the option to him and we used this play in the first drive of the game. We have more option type plays in the playbook. If you watch Elmhurst games online they had different options. I am sure we will see the option shovel pass play in the future.
The first quarter and fourth quarter offense was great. We need to clean up the offense in the middle of the game and I hope the coaches give Dungey more pass plays on first down as he was poised and outside of the horrible third pass with too much air and the blind side hit he fumbled he played really well for a true freshman.

They need to have Sunshine fake a hand off to RB going left, roll right to pass - and run if all coverage is dropping. When done - do it again.

No. He limited it for Dungey.

No. The size and speed of the game today was much different than last week. I felt the first halve we were letting Dungey get his feet wet and get a feel for that size and speed and probably better schemes. He made a couple bad passes that first half too. Second half? We opened it up more obviously as Dungey got more comfortable. We kept it close on the scoreboard that first half which allowed us to ease Dungey into the flow.

Watching it on the TV, I would add that Wake's D was far more disciplined, too. Such as forcing runs to the outside more than up the gut (at least until our line wore them out).

Whether he is or not is irrelevant in my opinion. Dungey is a true Freshman. He was playing high school football less than a year ago. Like I posted before we are fortunate our schedule allows the staff to ease him into a really tough schedule. Like others, pull out all the stops to beat LSU. Let's all worry about CMU first. One game at a time. Go Cuse.

Yes I do. Although, the Game plan was night and day compared to last week. I believe we will see it all in week #4.

Its like coaching little league baseball. Limit the amount of times the kids throw the ball to each other and you limit the number of throwing errors you'll have.

It looks like Lester is going to have to learn to let up on the leash. Or Dungey goes cowboy in the huddle and starts calling his own plays.

We opened up because we had to. I was wondering which one of you guys were drawing up plays on the Sbarro boxes. I wanted to say good job.

He couldn't put all the plays in one game even if he had tried. Dungey throws exceptionally well on the run so you can be sure we will see a lot of that coupled with a run option from a back. Wake Forest had a very good line backing corp so we didn't see much use of TE's on shorter pass routes, which is a staple of Lester's offense. Once Dungey gets his feet under him, the pass option w8ill open up all sorts of possibilities. Stay tuned.

I think he's definitely keeping at least a few tricks up his sleeve. That way when he finally pulls out the ace of spades and says, "Is THIS your card?" it'll be all the more impressive.
