... who have both used the word on national television?

Re-watching Scott Shafer's outburst when Clemson went for it on 4th down at the end of the half .... I was suddenly reminded of Jim Boeheim's defense of GMac at the 2006 Big East Tourney.

Two passionate guys.

Crazy. Didn't mind the word, but was amazed hcss got so upset. I know this isn't the football board, but I had no problem with Clemson going for it on fourth down there. This is FBS football, not the JV playing the varsity.

He just wanted a pretzel sandwich...with fries.

I like that he was fired up, but I'm not sure he's doing it the best way

I think he realizes he needs to cool down. I like his fire, but he needs to harness his energy and enthusiasm.

JB on the other hand is a lost cause, and I mean that in a good way. Look at someone like Schiano throwing his players under the bus. JB and Shafer will go to bat for their guys and I imagine that's an attractive quality for a head coach.

Yup. JB has always gone to bat for his guys ... even when some of them probably no longer deserve it. Louis McCrosky comes to mind. JB fought so hard with the SU administration over his admission... and still defended the kid after he threw a chair (or something) at JB. Then, he fought so hard for Flynn, Jackson and Jardine after that "he said/she said" episode almost resulted in their expulsion from SU. And we all saw where his loyalty to Bernie Fine got him... into the court room versus Gloria Allred. JB's loyalty is amazing ... and is one of his most endearing qualities.

I guess I'm in the minority that loved his passion on the sidelines. This is football, not arts and crafts. Give 'em hell Shaf!
I'm all for his passion and being hardnosed don't get me wrong.

Just think he may need to express it a little better.

I think there's a difference - a big one - between JB using the ef word as an adjective in his passionate defense of Gerry - and a head coach swearing at another coach. Using it as a curse word AT another coach. Sorry, I'm willing to give him a pass, but I think it's over the line. I hope he doesn't do it again. It's not about being PC, in my opinion.

Exactly

Its one think to say the word, its another to call someone else "mister falcon".

When I played Pop Warner one of my coaches had a mullet, swore, smoked and drank Busch at practice. Drove one helluva Firebird too.

My coach was the perfect marriage of Frank the tank and Patrick Swayze.

Scott Shafer acted like a teenage girl in that exchange, it was embarrassing to our program. Whining about getting the score run up on you at the FBS level is pathetic, let alone at the BCS level.

Pageing coach Joe Dirt!

I am a big fan of jb but loyalty is expressed in a lot of ways and jb has fallen way short in some of them.

I know the guy pretty well.. and, if anything, he may be too loyal. There are so many cases in point.. starting with Bernie Fine and Bill Rapp and encompassing countless players who have come through the program. Two seasons ago, when Scoop spoke for the team at the Hardwood Club dinner, he thanked JB for taking a kid from a bad background with serious issues and standing by him and working with him so that he was "now leaving Syracuse as a man." Pretty emotional speech, and it sums up what a lot of players (past and present) feel about JB. You would have been amazed how many former players paid their own way to Springfield in 2005 when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. There was a lot of love there that night. And you can't ever go to the Melo Center without seeing former players there who consider SU their home and JB a father figure.

Not what I am talking about.

I would actually venture to guess it's not that rare, mostly due to the proliferation of that word.

do you think hcss had a problem with it? or do you think he was pumped up that we stopped them?

i screamed .u.c.k. you to otto porter when cj fair dunked on him. i wasnt mad that otto tried to block it... but otto went to georetown and i am passionate. so i still screamed it.
