Does anyone expect our D to play Fournette like Auburn did?

Reading LSU's board, they seem to think our D will be much softer than Auburn's. Well, of all my years of watching SU, I can never recall seeing our defense half-ass it like some of the replays show Auburn defenders doing. It was during the Marone era (Shafer being the DC) that PSU said we were the hardest hitting team they played all year.

So, while on paper we may not be as talented, I think we will do a better job on Fournette than Auburn did just because our boys don't back down from anyone.

Pass D is another story.

I think Fournette will break 100 but won't get past 150.

Agreed, we will hit hard and fast. Fournette will not be totally stopped, the key is t o keep him limited, around 125 yards would be ideal. LSU would be forced to lean on the QB and back up RBs which would allow the aggressive blitzing to rattle the QB and keep LSU one dimensional (a very impressive Fournette one dimension, but one dimension nonetheless).

Miles is a good coach and the Tigers are disciplined. They won't make many stupid mistakes. They way to beat them is to slow their game plan and stick to your own game plan, if a team allows LSU to dictate the game, it is game over, LSU win. Miles and his Tigers win year in and year out but they can be beaten. Stop looking at Auburn film and look back at games where LSU lost. What those teams did is basically what Syracuse will have to do.

I want to see Fournette have a nice, violent introduction to Zaire or Big Ron. The biggest issue is going to be when he gets to the second level. I have zero faith in any of our DBs being able to tackle this dude.

I can guarantee that none of our DB's will just stretch out an arm and pretend like they're going to grab him (that was embarrassing for Auburn) or try to jump on him like the one Auburn DB attempted.

I hope you're right

trust me, this is not a knock on your defense in any way, but the only person who will stop Fournette from breaking 150 would be Les Miles.

I don't think anyone would argue that Fournette is not the best back we will see this season, but I'm willing to bet A) that Bullough sells out on stopping the run, B) we won't shy away like Auburn and C) we will be more formidable than you think.

We have zero evidence to suggest otherwise... :(

Still, if we can keep him around 175 yards and 2 TDs, I think we're doing alright, lol.

Going to have to stack the box, and gang tackle him. You have to go low on him, otherwise you will be on a highlight reel.

Well you certainly cant try the ole jump on the back technique

Have to gang tackle like mad and not even try arm tackles. Flip side of this will be the read option with them knowing we'll be overloading on Fournette. Backside players MUST be disciplined in their assignments or their QB will walk untouched for large chunks of yards.

We CANNOT miss tackles in the backfield like we did last week vs CMU. Have to hope last week was an aberration in that regard.

I know it's a different team and supposedly the best back ever, but remember when Andre Williams came into the loud house and left with a bum shoulder. He went over 100 yards in like 9 games that year and came in with 29 yards against us. Cuse can do it.

Can we please stop the Andre Williams comparisons ... he isn't even in the same solar system as Fournette ... Fournette can out run him backwards and is a stronger back.

Our safeties bouncing off LF will be like what happens to water particles when you put that special spray on your windshield

I think our safeties average about 180lbs...cant wait to see how well that works

Fournette is a joy to watch. He's big, fast, athletic, has great vision, and has a bigtime offensive line to run behind. I think he'll get his due. I think SU will do some things to stop him, but if he gets through the line or around the end, he's a fireball. And he doesn't need much of a gap with his acceleration. We have a huge challenge in slowing him down but if he's the key to the game, we will have done ok.

Well because you asked nicely...

No doubt as I hope it's not Fournette the bowling ball and we have 11 pins for him to choose from to knock down.

What I want to see is how well we do play. It will tell me how far we have yet to go to get back into the top 25 scene like we were during the 80s & 90s. As the old Big East became more of a basketball oriented conference when VT and others left, football became secondary. Along with being a private school in the NE and subsequent bad coaching hire decisions made by our old AD, we fell hard.

Our first year in the ACC (when FSU were the NC when they beat Auburn) our game with FSU was over in my mind in the first 2 -3 minutes. They were faster and bigger almost to a man and better coached as our current football HC made his way through his first year as a head coach. Our recruiting has gotten better top to bottom and we are playing a dozen freshmen this year and are matching up much better with teams in the ACC and with our new QB (Dungey who is out this game), our offense is much better.

I am excited to see a potential #1 team in the country play us. And I want to judge for myself how much further we still have to go given perceived better recruiting and a whole lot of freshmen out there. If we play as good or better than Auburn I will be excited for our team for the rest of the year.

We need to basically zone blitz and run blitz all game to hopefully stop him or hit him in the backfield before he gets started. I guarantee that is what our game plan will be from Bullough. We really have nothing to lose by selling out and just going man coverage on the outside, even if it is very soft and piling up on the run.

Would rather the WR's beat us than Fournette.

DE's crashing all game a as well hitting anything in front of them...hard.

Make Fournette go east and west ... don't let the OL give him a gap to pick so he can hit it with a full head of steam. Gap integrity will be key for LSU. If we can force Fournette to bounce it to the outside and flow to the ball and gang tackle we could make it tough on him. We cannot however let the OL give him even a slight crease or he will hit the hole and flatten someone in our secondary. Put 8 in the box but be certain to mark the TEs once in a while they will throw there. We don't have the corners to match up man 1 on 1 and win that battle so we really need to bring the heat and force the QB to make bad decisions but that starts with keeping their 1st and 2nd down gains to a minimum ... 3rd or 4th and short and you can pretty much guarantee LSU will just pound ahead and get it. Their size upfront is what concerns me but if the front 7 in our D stay active and run well we can be more than just a pushover. Bring stunts, twists and the whole damn kitchen sink this weekend.
