...has taken a fairly substantial step backwards this year? Between the non-committal commitments, the recruiting battles we've lost and the players we never had a chance with, it seems like all momentum with this team has stopped.

All we seem to hear is rumors on players being flipped away and lost recruiting battles....or JUCO recruits that we shouldn't be relying on in year #4.

I don't think the recruiting damage caused by last season's 5 game nosedive can be understated.

No..best class in a long, long time

And what does our depth issues at DT/DE (causing us to sign JUCO's on the defensive line) have to do with this years recruiting?

I would've hoped that JUCO's were a temporary stop-gap for critical position holes left unfilled during recruiting year 1 & maybe year 2.

I wouldn't expect to be going back to that well in year 4.

Well, when a guy you believed was going to come back for his senior year, but he bolts for the draft instead...you kinda need to fill the gap.

Again, what does that have to do with this years class and the question of whether its taken a step backwards?

If anything, the fact that we are bringing in JUCO DE/DT's speaks to not addressing the weakness in the past two classes...

I actually feel that recruiting is a bit better this year, not a ton but moving in the right direction

Other than this being the best class Marrone has brought in and probably the best class in ten years you've got it nailed.

Call me pessimistic, but lets see ink on paper before we proclaim this the "best class in ten years".

I think thats the key. Hopefully it continues to move in the right direction. Still need to land that one or two 4 star guys (or gasp...a 5 star player) to break that cherry.

A lot of these guys committed very early in the process, eliminating some of the hype I think. And some of them "blew up" as seniors and got late interest from other programs. So far nobody has flipped. Still seems like the best class Marrone has brought in to date. And I have to agree, the jc dl's are a response to prior class deficiencies and CJones deciding to leave after the season was over.

Recruiting has actually been good this year, not a great top 30 class but definitely a good solid class with a lot of areas covered with solid 3 and a sprinkling of some 4 star guys. What that 5 game losing streak did do was halt any chance we had of making a big splash in getting some top guys in state and out of . Marrone's actually done quite well considering the meltdown that was the last month of the season.

This is the best class we have had in many years. It isn't a top 20 class but it is a solid one. Definitely less reaches and B listers than in a long time.

No.

I don't see it that way at all.

The class was essentially set before the season unfolded.

The momentum is moving forward.

Well, It's good to see that so many of you agree with me. Sheesh...good thing I'm not running for a political office.

This class will juice up our depth chart right away. For that purpose. I really like it. There is enough there to go to a bowl.
Look like another class few but the olinemen and the injured getting a redshirt year.

I don't see this class as significantly better or worse than our recent classes and was wondering what some of you see that makes you feel this is such a good class. I grade a class by how many guys we got with good offers and we got a few this year, like we generally get most years.

Couldn't be more wrong.

If everyone qualifies (unlikely, but possible), and everyone expected to sign does, this will be a very good class.

Hopeful that the injury bug stays away from this team and allows most of them to redshirt. Could be a significant boost for the next two-three years in depth and talent if that's possible.

This a very good class and a step in the right direction if want to reach the top 25 ever again. The one thing this class lacks is star power, and not the Rivals / Scout kind. I'm not sure one of these kids on the offensive side of the ball is going to be a true star, although Broyld, McFarlane, and the RB from GA certainly could develop that way.

What I like, and you should to, is the fact this class is bigger, faster, and more athletic TOP to BOTTOM than any class we have had in a decade. All these kids can run and play football. There are very few, if any B Listers or long term projects ala Matt Hale, Charlie Loeb, Elon Mitchell, Charlie Copa etc. These types of kids are the life blood of a football team. They make specials better, they allow the program to move forward despite injures, departures, and defections.

I would much rather BCS programs like Miami, Mizzou, RU, USF, Michigan, etc try to pry away our kids than them having no interest from other schools at the end of the year. It's a good thing. Sure one or two may flip, just as we have flipped others as well.

An another note, a little birdie told me Wayne Morgan is Orange all the way. Hope this remains true.

Since I don't follow recruiting too closely, all I have to work on is "feeling"... and it seems like the "feeling"of those that do follow recruiting closely is that this class is an improvement over the past few years.

That's not to say that 3-4 years from now if the team isn't doing well we won't hear from the same people saying that we lack depth because of poor recruiting classes. ;)

Looks like a step forward (deeper but lacking star power), but the November swoon prevented it from being another step better.
Liked the two recent JUCO commits -- our program is at the point where the staff should be looking at JUCOs to fill gaps. If anything, might have done a tad more (WR, safety).
