After forcing myself to read Axe’s column on Luke Carney’s impending transfer, I struggle to understand Mr. Axe value in the local scheme of sports reporting.
Axe continues to report in a negative way, looking for the sensational and negative aspects of SU football and hoops over a realistic analysis. This reporting also Carrie’s negativity in almost every story.
Case in point - Luke Carney entering the transfer portal. Axe implies this is a major loss for the Orange. He states Carney is a 4 time Texas high school champion, and he was behind a walk on in the depth chart.
Well Brent, maybe there is a reason he played minimally. Also his redshirt question is a non factor. If the SU coaches thought for one minute he could help the team in the emergency that was the latter part of the season, they would have used him. And if Brent researched the Texas championship resume of Carney, he would have stated Carney was in a league of schools the size of Tully on Onondaga. Although he did well, he was in a tiny school, and probably would have not played in a larger league.
The point is we never see positivity from Axe. Also, stories are skewed to his hate agenda.
Maybe this stems from his radio show firing or his humbling rebukes that Jim Boeheim used to pound him with.
Brent, try another type of reporting, like food or something. Nobody likes your current role.

Carney looked every bit as capable as Filardi and Collins in the few plays he got at SU. I'm wondering if he told Fran early on that SU wasn't for him and asked him to preserve his redshirt for a transfer to somewhere else. Fran may have been doing him a favor that mystified all of us.

Brent is an imbecile and so is Javon. That’s it in a nutshell.

Anything like this, one side has their story, the other side has theirs, and the real story is somewhere in the middle.

Personally I don’t believe Luke’s playing time reflected his skill 1:1. I also don’t believe he was a hidden gem that we’re going to miss.

Is this the article you are commenting about?

If yes, I’m confused where all the negativity and sensationalism you claim is? I’m not a big fan of Axe, but definitely wouldn’t use this article as an example. It reads like a Luke Carney bio listing his stats/achievements for Syracuse and high school.

The comment about he could have started BC if he didn’t play versus ND is the only, maybe, controversial comment, but I think even that’s a stretch.

It seems like you are the one projecting “negativity” and “sensationalism” into this article. It’s a pretty basic piece.

I'm going to give you a thumbs down as you are a 1 and just joined poster... really what is your AXE to grind on this. MEH.

Civilization has degraded to the point where we're talking about Brent Axe's nutshell.
I consider this a pile of bullshit... this like talking like other sports reporters. I consider his stuff honest... What is the phrase for input...

What do all you see?

Derivative Drivel not related to the post.

Axe is fine. There was a time, years ago, when I didn't like his schtick. But in recent years I find him to be pretty fair.

I listen to Boston sports radio. Trust me, I know sensationalism and constant negativity when I hear it. Google "Felger & Mazz" for a pure example of that. Axe isn't that at all.

His line of inquiry is terrible … you must enjoy podcasts about Temple and the Baltimore Ravens.

Sorry I was referring to the original post on this, not Orange...

You ask what people see I’m telling you. But on top of that he has direct access to Fran and could ask questions that are better related to this subject matter forming a more concrete article. There are posters on this board that ask far better questions and would get more out of the coaches than this clown but don’t have his access. Instead we get softball questions and then his usual negative take. I don’t even mind the terrible takes it’s been a rough season but ask meaningful questions, not a line of inquiry that is comparable to “What is the teams favorite Gatorade flavor?”

very good point. Why don't you try you ask him directly? But, same time; he has probably better access, but you know how that goes, as you say. Otherwise, my original comment from MIB, 1 post joiner yesterday stands.

If I saw Fran I would … but I live in Florida and don’t have his contact info. If you mean contact Axe, I’m not here to help him do his job which is to get info for fans because I’m not getting paid for it.

Agree, I think he's fine. Very few people are going to be universally popular in that role.

You can subscribe the 'Syr fan part' and sometimes he does respond, but you know it doesn't hurt to maybe just email him. I wasn't talking about Fran, just Axe. Got a criticism, see what his take is. Honestly, he just reporting on what he saw, and with all us as feedback, all around. So he does have a point in his observations.
