Does the firing of the football coach give Hop a little

cover at UW?
They also fired the women's basketball coach with a couple years left on her contract. I would think there would be a limited budget for paying people not to work at most universities, but we'll see. Hopefully Hop will make it a non-issue with a better season.

After the first couple of games this year I’m not sure he makes it through the season. The contract was mentioned but UW has a ton of money, I don’t think they care.

Brutal. I don’t feel quite as bad for him, as he’s made a ton of money and is set for life. But wish he could be successful.

Who knows, maybe his departure would coincide with our transition and he comes back as associate head coach. A role that he is very good at.

As long as he can hover around 500 I think he will be fine. It is a football first school by a mile. People don't even talk about basketball here at all. This is how Romar stayed around for so long. He was a nice guy who never embarrassed the program and everyone in athletics liked. The football situation definitely helps him but he has to win more than 10-12 games. I'm not sure if this team can do that. They need to beat the non-conference teams like Wyoming, Seattle U etc and then beat the bottom half of the Pac 12.

what happened w his recruiting? seems like along w anemic offense there's just a dearth of talent currently on the roster? has he hit the portal at all?

Doesnt UW have to pay Hop $10 mil or something if they fire him without cause before his contract is up?

He did hit the portal and I think got a few kids better than the ones he lost. The Davis kid from Stanford and the kid from Michigan. When things didn't go well for Jaden McDaniels his family blamed Hop which is crazy because the kid is a total headcase and can't shoot. They went around to local AAU tesms bad mouthing Hop which carries weight. They have 2 kids who are in the NBA. That has hurt him since hadn't been out here a really long time and doesn't have long standing relationships.

Probably around that. He has 3 years left after this one at around 2.8 I think

What’s crazy is they probably would’ve been better without McDainels, I think I watched every game that year and after Green was ineligible it seemed like Mcdaniels was just chucking the ball every time he got it and put zero into defense. Such a shame because they had a pretty good squad.

If he gets fired at Washington I don’t see how we could hire him.
I hear you, but I can imagine all the narratives created to hire him. "spend 25 years recruiting in Northeast" "know system better than anyone else" yada yada

all I'm saying is it's not out of realm of possibility

I’m guessing it’s going to be Gmac anyway.
