Does the firing of the football coach give Hop a little

His OOC schedule has to be one of the worst in the country. Wouldn't be surprised to see a covid breakout around that trip to Sokane.

Any chance hop comes back as a defensive coordinator? Maybe him and Autry could be co-HC? We could really use his recruiting chops.

After the first couple of games this year I’m not sure he makes it through the season. The contract was mentioned but UW has a ton of money, I don’t think they care.
I care as much as UW in that case.

Yeah. This is not going to be a pretty ending, he needs to turn this around quick. He's got games against Zaga, UCLA, Oregon and USC coming up...needs to pick off a couple or he's not going to be back next year. He can't go 12-19 or something like that.

Jeff Linder has done a good job rebuilding the Wyoming program after a disastrous few years under former Kentucky guard Allen Edwards. He got them from 9-24 to 14-11 in his first season last year. Graham Ike is a really solid college big man. That being said, this was a game that Hop needed to win at home.

Those shooting numbers aren’t going to get it done. Just not enough skilled guys who can put it in the basket.

wonderful person. great recruiter. mediocre head coach.

would be good as an assistant for the orange. nothing more, imo.

I wish he was able to build on his early success. But he's had his chance at a high major HC. But look at Steve Alford, he's bounced around at different levels. No reason why Hop can't get another HC job somewhere, but I don't see how he can jump in to the SU job at this point.

The "great" recruiter part is not translating to his current gig. That team is not talented.

I watched their game last night and he’s got some nice athletes but they just can’t put the ball in the basket. They should have won in regulation but a player missed a bunny with 2 secs left.

Correct and good summary - when I say talented I meant basketball talent.

I don’t think his coaching is bad, he just doesn’t have the horses.

well it doesnt last forever if the results arent there...theyve struggled enough now that recruits are are not as confident

I hear you, but I can imagine all the narratives created to hire him. "spend 25 years recruiting in Northeast" "know system better than anyone else" yada yada

all I'm saying is it's not out of realm of possibility

I could live with Autry and Hop as his top assistant. Huge reversal of fortune for Red. Would be a recruiting powerhouse. Ain't gonna happen but if we're going to keep things in house, this would be the best combo.

Isn't it his job to get the players that wont lead to a 5-21 season?

What would it take for Hop to come back as an associate HC? Highest paid assistant in the country is making what? It would be well worth the spend.

I unfortunately watched the whole game last night at the casino with some buddies, had a decent sized bet on washington. They went up 62-55 with 5 minutes left to play, I was feeling pretty good, and then they scored a whole 3 points the next 5 minutes. Shot something like 30% from the field and less than 20% from 3, one of the worst offensive teams I’ve watched.

Absolutely it is, nobody is saying it wasn’t. I’d fire him at this point if I was the AD.

If he ever wants to be a head coach again, it's probably not the right move. He's better off going down a level a la Alford and ironing out the kinks for another shot at a big time program. At his age, the window for doing all that is fast closing.
