Don’t shoot the messenger. 2030 with Red???

The Sporting News article about his contract showed up near the top of my Google news feed this morning. :(

I haven't made it all the way through but Sporting News has zero credibility anymore. Less than zero if possible. It's all either AI or just drivel by someone who knows little but assumes a lot. It was the standard in its day but it is National Enquirer territory today.

It would be expected the contract Autry has would have a combination of offset language for salary in his next job, requirement to in good faith mind a new opportunity, and any buyout would be paid out over the length of the contract (not a lump sum payment). The buyout number to replace a head coach that is not meeting expectations is nowhere near top of the market for top 30 head coaches.

The buyout is easily paid for against revenue the program brings in via ticket sales when we are back to be a NCAA tourney team. Paid attendance for weekend home games should be in the mid 20Ks as it has been historically and high 20Ks when the team is ranked not the 19680 we had last saturday for SMU. Money is easily located when you sell tickets as planned/expected. The cost of not making the change will make the buyout look like loose change

That article really is a Rorschach test of Syracuse fans.

If you immediately bought the 2030 and $13 million buyout stuff and got angry -- and didn't first think that it seems outlandish and you should wait to validate those things -- maybe step back and think about how you consume media, and how you might improve your media literacy.
I ain’t fallin’ for no banana in my tailpipe.

So he was given a SEVEN year contract? Not the 5 years previously reported? Why?
No way you would ever give a 7 year contract to a rookie HC.

Edit: just read the whole thread, glad I passed the "Fan Test".

IMHO, anything more than 4 years to a rookie HC is malpractice.

In this era of unlimited free agency...three years should be the new standard.
