Realizes he has a problem with the defense. Instead of blind loyalty to his guy, brings someone in to, hopefully, help fix the problem and help his DC. Hopefully, this ultimately makes both the D and the DC better.

He had that guy, Kevin Coyle, a former DC with P, was in the same role. He just took the DC job at UCLA a couple of weeks ago.

Fran was proactive before the season started.

He would always bring it up. And I really don’t know why more teams don’t use it. You see it in the nfl with Atlanta now.

Now they need someone to come in and fix the run blocking of the OL and the whole run game scheme. Doug Marrone or Mike Schmidt could do it, but neither would be available.

Alabama was not too impressed with Marrone as an OL coach, IIRC
 
The running game is a problem for so many reasons right now. Austin Collins went out on the first play and Millerreally struggled snapping and blocking. The center is the only guy who touches the ball every play on offense and Miller never really looked comfortable. Two of our other starters are really banged up. Cruz and Mack aren't as effective as they were a few weeks ago. Collins decision making on the RPO's isn't very good, shocking I know. Collins doesnt read the defense well or sell his fakes. Willis is dancing and hoping a hole opens up, he is no Le'veon Bell. All in all the run game is a disaster and that istn't helping Rickie Collins in the passing game.

This sums it up well. Take out the threat of the pass game and it’s tough to move the ball. Add to that a ton of interceptions and we simply can’t win unless something drastic changes.

Bottom line is he wants to throw the ball, and is too confident doing that with the current QB, and also when situation dictates you should run the ball. And we've seen now that it can hurt us.

I like your take on that. I think there is still a preference of plays when at times they probably should be adapted to warrant the current situation.

Yeah, Marrone has really fallen on hard times. He's barely scratching out a living as the OC and OL coach for some obscure team in New England that while sure they are in first place, but they did lose 2 games already.

Perhaps it is easier to coach pros than it is to coach 18-23 year olds? The guy did leave us for the NFL, IIRC.

As is 99% of Offensive lines, its brutal in the trenches. That is a piss poor excuse for the opposition.
Something changed/helped us regardless of the opposition.
So what you are saying is Pitt is soft, that is quite possible but not the reason we exploded attacking behind the LOS.
