He had that guy, Kevin Coyle, a former DC with P, was in the same role. He just took the DC job at UCLA a couple of weeks ago.BTW, not for nothing, but this is a sign of maturing as a coach.
Realizes he has a problem with the defense. Instead of blind loyalty to his guy, brings someone in to, hopefully, help fix the problem and help his DC. Hopefully, this ultimately makes both the D and the DC better.
Somewhere SWC is smiling at the two running back set comment.I keep wondering why they do not try two running back sets. At this point I would go two running back set, mix in rpo, options, reverses etc. Fran has made changes on D but not O. If he wants Ricky to have any chance to succeed he has to make changes. Running the regular O each week hoping it’s going to click for Ricky is not going to work.
This is exactly right. He’s the engineer in the room full of sales guys
Alabama was not too impressed with Marrone as an OL coach, IIRCThis is exactly right.
Great decision, by whoever made it. I hope they retain Don Brown through next season.
Also: it's time to change the Title of this thread to:
"Syracuse hires Don Brown"
Now they need someone to come in and fix the run blocking of the OL and the whole run game scheme. Doug Marrone or Mike Schmidt could do it, but neither would be available.
This sums it up well. Take out the threat of the pass game and it’s tough to move the ball. Add to that a ton of interceptions and we simply can’t win unless something drastic changes. The running game is a problem for so many reasons right now. Austin Collins went out on the first play and Millerreally struggled snapping and blocking. The center is the only guy who touches the ball every play on offense and Miller never really looked comfortable. Two of our other starters are really banged up. Cruz and Mack aren't as effective as they were a few weeks ago. Collins decision making on the RPO's isn't very good, shocking I know. Collins doesnt read the defense well or sell his fakes. Willis is dancing and hoping a hole opens up, he is no Le'veon Bell. All in all the run game is a disaster and that istn't helping Rickie Collins in the passing game.
Bring on the Dazzler to fix the OLThis is exactly right.

Brava ?As the self-appointed board arbiter of nicknaming, I have to say, being a football coach with the nickname "Dr. Blitz" is pretty much as good as it gets.
Brava, Dr. Blitz
Lol my autocorrect does fascinating, unpredictable things.Brava ?

Is George DeLeone still alive? If not, is Paul Johnson? You get my drift here...Bring on the Dazzler to fix the OL
I like your take on that. I think there is still a preference of plays when at times they probably should be adapted to warrant the current situation.I wouldn't say the issues on offense are due to Nixon's inexperience or creativity. He's not lacking in those traits.
Bottom line is he wants to throw the ball, and is too confident doing that with the current QB, and also when situation dictates you should run the ball. And we've seen now that it can hurt us.
Yeah, Marrone has really fallen on hard times. He's barely scratching out a living as the OC and OL coach for some obscure team in New England that while sure they are in first place, but they did lose 2 games already.Alabama was not too impressed with Marrone as an OL coach, IIRC
Perhaps it is easier to coach pros than it is to coach 18-23 year olds? The guy did leave us for the NFL, IIRC.Yeah, Marrone has really fallen on hard times. Having Brown as an analyst is amazing. No wonder the night and day approach.Brown was always known for an aggressive blitzing scheme. Makes sense now. Would not be surprised if his role continues to elevate
tommy boy ?Bill callahan is looking for work after his son lost the titans job.
Agreed. Solid coach with just a boatload of experienceHaving Brown as an analyst is amazing. No wonder the night and day approach.
I want to see us use a ton of FAKE blitzes this week. They are going to be game planning crossing routes to take advantage of the blitz. Let's get ourselves a LB interception this week.Agreed. Solid coach with just a boatload of experience
AI says it should be one of these guys:Bill callahan is looking for work after his son lost the titans job. He’s an OL guru, wonder if he’d be willing to consult. Probably can’t afford it though
ED rips it out of the air and stomps over Hanyes who tries to rip it back ala Dungy.I want to see us use a ton of FAKE blitzes this week. They are going to be game planning crossing routes to take advantage of the blitz. Let's get ourselves a LB interception this week.
As is 99% of Offensive lines, its brutal in the trenches. That is a piss poor excuse for the opposition.Pitt was hurt on the OL
