Donnie and JJ back

Why? They were both on the team when Petar signed last year. Donnie, White and Anthony will all play some 3. Petar will paly some 5. Let's not drive 6'8" Euros with skill away because we want to label guys by positions.
Well they mentioned Freeman and Starling coming back. But didn’t mention Petar coming back. Just seems weird to announce two people coming back, if there are three coming back. Why not just announce Petar too lol

At least this is out of the way early.

There is so much needed to supplement them, especially at PG, shooting, defense and a C.

I'm happy the local kid and the bigtime recruit are returning, but we are far, far, far away from being any good with them as the core.

Hopefully, Donnie's foot injury allows him to work out to get stronger and develop his game in the coming months. If he's not on the court all spring/summer, it's going to be an issue.

I said it earlier in the year, we have NIL this year. We can get good kids in the portal.
What is astonishing is to find out we had very poor NIL money this year. If it’s true it was about two millions and 800k have been spent just for lampkin, we were wrong to expect better results

I'm not suggesting everyone ignore the obvious with JJ. I'm there with you. We need to deal with the reality of what he is and can be.

BUT...

He's a local kid who clearly wants to win at home. At best, we can hope he has an amazing SR season without crapping on him all offseason.

Again, not suggesting we shouldn't be recruiting over. We should be giving him some comp for PT, imo. But we can hope he steps up his game to the next level.
He has time to learn how to shoot. Get to work!

As long as he learns to pass and play within a team concept, plus plays defense, it's good to have him back. But he needs to be the 4th or 5th option on offense.
Donnie needs to be among the top 3 options, need a good point guard and a low post presence at center who can play defense.
Yeah, we all know what he needs to do and what the team needs to do.

I'm saying on the day he's coming back, let's try to keep it positive.

If it's the end of the portal season and it looks like he's set for 35+ mins again, then we can rant away

Cadeau (UNC)
Pinion (Ark St)
Mgbako (IU)
Washington (UNC)
Rapp (Portland)

We, like the rest of the stupid conference we are in, were not ready for the portal or NIL . All except Duke and UNC. The ville learned their lesson last year.

If Kiyan and Sadiq can be ready from Day 1 like say Donte Greene and Jonny Flynn were (obviously a big if) I really think this ship can be turned around like Louisville‘s was.

I love the thought of Donnie as a healthy and mature soph and Starling being a secondary offensive option.
Starling being a secondary option is really the key. He can't be the guy opposing teams key on. He's fine as a secondary bucket getter and slasher. But we saw what happens when he's the guy and it's just not his skillset.

Most importantly, we also need someone else who can be the alpha/leader of the team. JJ isn't that type of guy.

Hard, hard, pass on Cadeau.
The only point guard I think would be a better fit is if Naithan George hit the portal from Georgia Tech. But explain what concerns you on Cadeau?

100%, It's no coincidence he was nothing special after Bacot finished his 10th year and opposing teams didn't have 20 team fouls on them.

He can't shoot. He is no threat. To me, the choice between Cadeau or Claude is no choice at all. I have watched UNC as much as most. I have never been impressed with him. Never.

I can deal with him being inefficient on offense again if he starts playing defense and there are other scorers. Defensive improvement is everything next year.

Donovan Dent from New Mexico would be my top choice.
