Donnie Freeman in the portal

Sure, it would be transfering down from a SEC school. We're not a SEC school. It's not transfering down.

Like that matters in todays landscape. You spent all of the coaching carousel saying that we weren't attracting anyone good because we had no nil. Providence ended up with a better coach and (as far as we can tell) more nil. I'm not even saying they're better and more serious than us, but Providence is not a step down.
And they called me a Providence sleeper agent 😑

Watching bigs last night work for position down low, executing low post moves and playing thru contact...none of that is in Donnie's bag and don't even get me started on his handle.

His future is bright IF he develops a motor and I'm on record that isn't always easy.

That's why I've said repeatedly that Donnie is a small forward. He has zero attributes of being a power forward or a small ball center. He's too damn soft.

I severely doubt they have more money. We have more money with Gerry than we would have with Hodgson.

When I close my eyes and think of Donnie, I see fade away jumpers and a dude unwilling to impose his will. He's got immense talent, no dispute there. I just think he plays soft and takes more difficult shots than he should.

That all said, I'm conflicted on whether I'm happy he's moving on or not. I guess it depends on who we replace him with but I think we might find a better fit for GMac's team even with a guy in the portal who might not be quite as talented.

Let's be honest, for all his supposed talent, his Top 10 rating was because he showed guard skills in a 6-9 body against high school kids.

He has nice form on his jumper, but he doesn't take them at the right times, and the number of games where he actually played inside-out, scoring at the rim before drifting out to the 3 point line, you could count on one hand.

He doesn't dribble well enough to be a SF in the NBA. He doesn't shoot well enough to be a SF in the NBA. Sadiq White is a way better player than Donnie.

Well a big part of that is because you were saying stuff before the coaching search ended, and most of us believed that Providence beating us out just wasn't possible. While I'm not 100% convinced that Hodgson passed on us instead of the other way around, I can't deny that they got a better coach and has more nil.

He’s too soft for my liking. Look at everyone on the court last night. Some of those bigs might not be super talented, but they gave huge effort. I always thought Donnie would shy away from contact.
I just said that to a co worker earlier. They were all very physical last night. As good as he was, he shied away from contact on both ends of the floor.

We have more NIL than we would’ve with Hodgson. He and Gerry are both great coaches. Sounds like you’re insecure to me.

It only takes a second to read so no big deal and not intended at you individually sorry, just collectively it always leaves me shaking my head
I like Donnie but when you clean house with an entire coaching staff, chancellor & AD, I kind of don’t care if every single player from last year leaves as well.

It’s probably for the better. Would have liked him Fennell and White back though.

I agree. But I don't think White is gone yet.

souare is in the portal

Not a huge loss, but I don't know that we'll wind up with someone better for that role. Kind of feel the same about the loss of Fennell. It's going to probably cost us more to get a backup who doesn't have the same level of talent.

The unnatural sway of his upper body when walking just never seemed right to me. I don't know what the issue was or if there even was an issue. it just made me feel something was off physically or at best not efficient.
Bad feet!

Where do you know that they have more nil than we do now? Because of the coach we did hire, we have money pouring in. It wouldn't have come in for Hodgson like that. At least in the first year. As far as who the better coach is, that is yet to be determined. Neither has done all that much yet. Both with one tournament and one loss to show for it.

Donnie needs to go to a place with an established winning coach who can get effort and toughness to match his size and talent. Adrian Autry, the Greg Robinson of Syracuse basketball, had no idea how to develop players. Most of our talented freshman peaked in November over his tenure. The NBA is always looking out for Donnie's skillset and if he can go to a Kansas or something, he can live up to his potential.

Now for Syracuse, Donnie wasn't coming here for his education so I think they're better off reallocating that money towards players who better fit Gerry's vision.

Again, I think people are lumping NIL and revenue sharing together. Because Providence does not have football they have more revenue sharing to spend on basketball players. I don't think we have any idea as to how much NIL any team has at the moment. Certainly not Providence.

JB already did that and that really upset the Freeman camp.
He certainly did. Not his smartest moment.

Edit: I have no inside information. But I facepalmed when I heard the quote. Talk about burning a bridge.
