Donnie Freeman in the portal

We have more NIL than we would’ve with Hodgson. He and Gerry are both great coaches. Sounds like you’re insecure to me.
I'm definitely insecure about our coaching. Gerry might be great, and I hope he is, but his record isn't. I mean, out of the 3 schools that fought for Hodgson, we ended up with the biggest question mark of a coach. And I feel like that's the nice way of putting it.
Where do you know that they have more nil than we do now? Because of the coach we did hire, we have money pouring in. It wouldn't have come in for Hodgson like that. At least in the first year. As far as who the better coach is, that is yet to be determined. Neither has done all that much yet. Both with one tournament and one loss to show for it.
My knowledge about their nil is the same as my knowledge about anybody's nil, including ours: nothing but rumors. All I can do is compare their rumored number with our rumored nunber. And Gerry might end up being the better coach, but as of right NOW Providence made the better hire. I honestly don't see how you can think that Providence is a step down after the things you were seeing in the coaching search, mixed with the era of nil. I don't remember exactlu who said what in that crazy thread, but I think you were one of the people that said our history had no impact on our coach search.

Let's be honest, for all his supposed talent, his Top 10 rating was because he showed guard skills in a 6-9 body against high school kids.

He has nice form on his jumper, but he doesn't take them at the right times, and the number of games where he actually played inside-out, scoring at the rim before drifting out to the 3 point line, you could count on one hand.

He doesn't dribble well enough to be a SF in the NBA. He doesn't shoot well enough to be a SF in the NBA. Sadiq White is a way better player than Donnie.
Small forwards in the NBA are freak athletes. Donnie’s not guarding any of them. Can you imagine him with a coach like Thibs? He’d be gone the first day of practice.

Sure, it would be transfering down from a SEC school. We're not a SEC school. It's not transfering down.

Like that matters in today’s landscape. You spent all of the coaching carousel saying that we weren't attracting anyone good because we had no nil. Providence ended up with a better coach and (as far as we can tell) more nil. I'm not even saying they're better and more serious than us, but Providence is not a step down.
In the last decade we’ve completely sucked and still have won more games of significance than Providence has in the same time period. Oh and even in the past two seasons of suck we still have a better record than them. Just ridiculous the amount of Jeff Goodman word salad you’re trying to regurgitate here.

You are making the argument, and you are entitled to your opinion, that a school that has been to what? One sweet 16 in the last 25 years, is an equal job as Syracuse because one guy decided he wanted to coach there instead of at Syracuse. When we don't know if that guy was even offerd the job at Syracuse. P.C. hasn't been an equal job to Syracuse since the 70's.

Wish him well but if hes in for a rude awakening if he goes to the sec, it's a war every night. Also coaches won't tolerate him jacking up.3s.

I don't think Hodgson was offered the job, but he was clearly interested until... whatever happened happened. I'm making the argument, that you appeared to be making until we got GMac (again, unless I'm confusing you with someone else, which is entirwly possible), that history doesn't matter. Nil and how much you can pay a coach matters. Hodgeson not coming here wasn't the end of the world, but ending up with a coach as low down in the pecking order as GMac means something.

If someone handed you a winning lottery ticket you would probably refuse to take it.

Come back when Hodgson flames out or leaves Providence for the SEC.

Breathe, everything will be okay.

He has zero chance to play the 4 in the NBA. He will never been strong enough or have the mentality. If Donnie has a pro future, that's his spot, but I agree with you.

GMac's a winning lottery ticket? 🤣

Hodgson might leave for the SEC (which I'd take in a heartbeat), and he might flame out. Watching Cooley flame out a Gtown is something I didn't expect. But thinking that a guy with GMac's coaching history is a better choice because an actual better choice might flame out is just insane.

Sums up the Autry era well. Talented guys like Donnie, Mintz, Q, etc.

I see Mintz pop up on social media from time to time. Is he 🍊 family? Does he hate us? I have no idea.

He likes to chirp about us. It's not like he's a big star. He's playing in Turkiye. I suppose he's getting paid, but how did leaving SU turn out for you, young fella?

Additionally, 48-10 is Syracuse's record vs Providence all time. Including 21-0 during the 1980s. they went an entire decade in the same conference as us and took a goose egg. We also won the final 9 games in the series.

The dominance was just beginning to end...

I was hoping for Hodgson. However, there are things about the guy that I was holding my nose about. However, what Gerry has done so far has me very impressed. And like I said, I am told by people that do know, that the money is pouring in. What I take exception to is the idea that P.C. is at our level. They haven't been since the 70's. When they were. As bad as things have been here, P.C. has been worse. We still have seen 2 final fours in the last 13 years which is the grand total of P.C.'s history.

There were things I was holding my nose about Hodgson, too. I held out hope when it was clear Hodgson wasn't the guy that we would move on to somebody exciting. Now, I'd rather we got Hodgson and just collectively held our nose while he was here.

I'm sure I've made my position known, but I'll repeat it one last time: I'm certainly not going to argue that Providence has been worse than Syracuse, I'm arguing that this doesn't matter in the era of basketball that we find ourselves in. We seem to all collectively agree that any SEC is a step up and a better job, because they have more money. Our history is better than most SEC schools, but it just doesnt matter anymore.

I'll say a nice thing about Gerry as a coach. I really do like the staff he's putting together.

If anyone wants to keep talking (or fighting) about it, I welcome any private messages. I apologize for getting Freeman's thread so off track 😅

good luck to Donnie who needed to make this move, Im glad for him and also for G as we need to a clean slate.

Nothing.

But he's a legit 6-10 with stretch four capabilities. He has not fully "grown" into his physique yet, either.

On the other hand, he shies away from contact, has yet to prove that he can be an inside-out player, and doesn't defend. At all.

Which is why he needs to go somewhere like Alabama [just for example, since they recruited him heavily out of HS] where he is going to get pushed to work hard, and play within a structured offensive concept.

If he does, then I would see him in the NBA. He's a former McD's all american -- so some team out there will take a chance on him in terms of NIL.

Tools are there, not sure about the attitude.
My hope was that GMAC was the coach to get Freeman's ceiling out of him. Red clearly wasn't. Obviously, it isn't impossible for Freeman to be back, but it seems my hopes for him are dashed.
