Donnie Freeman injures foot

Freeman would be nice to have back but he was the worst defender on a horrible defensive team. If another school wants to give him a huge check go ahead. Does anyone at KSU think Coleman was worth the money or Townsend at Arizona? Power forwards not named Cooper Flagg or Broome didn’t have much affect on winning this season. Guards and wings win in today’s game. Eddie got two shots last night. Post players get taken out of games. Get guards and two way wings.
Part of me wonders if they were all awful at defense or we just couldn’t teach it. Probably a combination of both.

We need scorers' period. You don't get points for anything other than the ball going through the basket. Start with kids that can score. They put pressure on the other team. Getting stops is great but if you can't shoot better than 25%, if you don't have any threats on the outside nothing is going to matter. Bring in kids with size that can shoot the ball and score. 5 kids on the floor that have an O game, and we have a chance.
Other than that, focus on kids that do something else well. Namely Rebound and Defend. MAKE SURE that they are happy with that role. We don't need any more kids trying to be what they aren't at our expense. The goal is to win games. Individual improvement of players. Development is dead in today's free transfer NIL world. If they don't have a game when they step foot on campus they are not going to develop here. Forget that dream. You have to have game ready players now that can score. Start there.

As I was watching the game last night that was what I was thinking. We need more players who can score the ball. I do think Freeman could be a double digit scorer, was a good rebounder. Still the transition from high school D to College D eluded both he and Moore. This could change with experience, but the injury cost him a lot of valuable learning time. That is a shame because this was a lost season for us, if Donne and Elijah kept playing and figures out how to defend better, we could have derived some value for the future out if the season. Almost a completely lost year for Donnie. The intriguing athleticism is there but without effort and learning he could become another Bennie Williams.

we need kids who can attack the basket off the dribble and either finish or kick. We spent more time dribbling and going nowhere than any team I can recall. Guys more efficient than JJ who can go and get their own. As much as I like Freeman - he has shown that at this point he's a standstill jump shooter. We need to pressure the D with guys who can create their own.

No one moves to get open. Do you know how many possessions they doubled Eddie and everyone should stood and watched last night ha. He got tripled once or twice too.

Not sure what people see in Cuffe. I hope he doesn't come back, needs to transfer down to a lower D1 school. Not crazy about foreign dude either. JJ,can take or leave, but he needs a true PG to compliment his play in my opinion and also needs to play D, he's one of the worst besides Bell. .
The Venn diagram of players we can afford, players who would take the risk to come here, and the kinds of players we need…. That’s a small, tight shape. We dump Cuffe and Petar, we might have a roster of five paid no-handle wings and ten walkons.

Yup, compared Donnie Freeman to Benny Williams I have seen it all now. Well done everyone, well done.
I was not comparing attitude I was comparing the parallel of not getting what one should derive from tremendous athleticism.

international players are always an option

(one I would love to see more of)

Donnie was playing very well for a freshman and improving rapidly. His defense needs work but it is hard to fault him on that when not a single player on the team seemed to know what to do on defense.

That's... also not a good comparison, my friend.

We will just disagree. I believe Donnie would have been a better, more complete player if he played all year. Next year he won't be much more experienced than the incoming Fresmen. Only advantage he gained is a year in the weight room and the few games he played

You should go back and look at the game logs. He wasn't really trending up. His best games were against Albany, Cornell and Notre Dame. He did hit double figures 3 times in his last 5 games, but we lost 4 of those games, and he was not great on the boards with only 1 rebound vs. Georgetown and 4 vs. Wake.

I wonder how he would have complemented JJ. Another athlete and option. I really hope he concentrates on becoming a great defender. He will need to add strength

I think he also got caught up in Red not knowing how to use him. He was off the court for stretches for no apparent reason.

Yeah, maybe. I wonder, though, about this staff’s acumen in assessing talent, and having that be made even more challenging by the distance, infrequency of exposure, and different competition levels. And then again, the same concerns would apply to getting them to believe in us as a destination.

Are we hoping to get the players other programs are overlooking? Seems ambitious. Do we have scouting resources and connections? I haven’t read about Alex Kline in that respect, but maybe he’s plugged in everywhere. Maybe Petar has a cousin….

I really hate how this Verizon pop-up add comes up multiple times while you're reading the same page. Three or four times per page. Very annoying.

Freeman was not healthy that was his only issue beside defense but I cant tell right now if that is a him problem or a Red problem. Probably a little of both as I don't think he had great defensive awareness. But he averaged 13/8 when he played. Benny never came close to that.

Ace Baily averaged 17/7
Thomas Sorber 14/8
Knueppel averaged 14/4
McNeeley averaged 15/6

Like freshmen don't come in and set the world on fire. His numbers are just in line with other freshman around the nation comparing him to Benny is super disrespectful.

He would play well in stretches and then get taken out of the game due to Red's bizarre substitution patterns.
