Well I heard two of the names on the list and that isn't one.
Saban
Urban
Edsall
what would firing him in mid season accomplish? Nothing.Sucks, but yeah, Shafer has got to go. The games are not competitive, let alone this Dungey situation. If Coyle is going to make a move, I hope he pulls the trigger soon and doesn't wait for the end of the season. There is a big enough sample size of Shafer's work, time to move on, time for a change.

Fair question.
Does firing Shafer now improve this team now or in the future?
Yes.
Care to elaborate?
Upstate said:Coyle was lucky with Peterson and low admission standards. It's really hard to find someone willing to stay as long as he did. Who knows. Time for a new regime. Lots of talent on the roster IMO.
1. His coaching decisions have made him a liability.
2. He was not looking out for the best interests/health of our talented freshman QB in a game that was out of reach and meaningless.
3. The losses coupled with decision making has lost the confidence of the fan base and will lead to short term loss of funding to the Ath Dept which may never return.
4. Even the threat that he may be in trouble will affect our current recruits as well as future recruiting efforts. Negative recruiting from our competition.
HE GONE
Signals to the fans and alums that the program is moving in a different direction. Just delaying the inevitable, when this additional time could be used to find the proper coach, let the recruiting situation pan itself out to get a much more clearer picture etc... More time, more time, more time!what would firing him in mid season accomplish? Nothing.
Rebuttal? or one that you have in your back pocketCare to elaborate?

It gives the kids that are committed to us more time to leave us and go elsewhere. You fire SS when you are ready to hire someone else. And boom, the new guy comes in and immediately settles the recruits down. Oh, and maybe he calls Clark back.Signals to the fans and alums that the program is moving in a different direction.
