Don't Care Who Transfers, or How Many Recruits We Lose

Exactly. He will not be starting from ground zero if and when he starts a search. Educated guess here - he likely knew the day after he was hired if Harsin would be interested and what it would take to get him here.

Well I heard two of the names on the list and that isn't one.

I was told that Coyle had to tell the BOT his short list before he was hired.

Interesting.

Sucks, but yeah, Shafer has got to go. The games are not competitive, let alone this Dungey situation. If Coyle is going to make a move, I hope he pulls the trigger soon and doesn't wait for the end of the season. There is a big enough sample size of Shafer's work, time to move on, time for a change.
what would firing him in mid season accomplish? Nothing.

Fair question.
Does firing Shafer now improve this team now or in the future?

Coyle was lucky with Peterson and low admission standards. It's really hard to find someone willing to stay as long as he did. Who knows. Time for a new regime. Lots of talent on the roster IMO.

Care to elaborate?

1. His coaching decisions have made him a liability.

2. He was not looking out for the best interests/health of our talented freshman QB in a game that was out of reach and meaningless.

3. The losses coupled with decision making has lost the confidence of the fan base and will lead to short term loss of funding to the Ath Dept which may never return.

4. Even the threat that he may be in trouble will affect our current recruits as well as future recruiting efforts as long as he is the head coach. Negative recruiting from our competition.

HE GONE

Coyle didn't hire Peterson.

But he did hire they guy who's currently advancing their program in a much more restrictive environment. I suspect it's that exact fact that was why he appealed to SU.

I'm not disputing these as much as I'm trying to figure out what is the downside of him getting fired before the end of the season. It's something Coyle needs to measure.

Signals to the fans and alums that the program is moving in a different direction. Just delaying the inevitable, when this additional time could be used to find the proper coach, let the recruiting situation pan itself out to get a much more clearer picture etc... More time, more time, more time!

There is noone in this class that is so good we can't afford to lose them. The 2 QB's might be the exception.

It gives the kids that are committed to us more time to leave us and go elsewhere. You fire SS when you are ready to hire someone else. And boom, the new guy comes in and immediately settles the recruits down. Oh, and maybe he calls Clark back.

You don't think they are gonna get calls right now from other coaches saying our coach is good as done and he's lying to you by stringing you along?

Those kids are already on the phone reopening their recruitment.
