Don't look now but Chesney is 7-1

Chesney is a very good coach but we made the right call with Fran. We would be a bowl team this year with Angeli, after losing McCord, Allen, OG, Meeks, Peña, Barron, Diggs, Wax. Freaking boatload of production and upperclassman leadership. This season is a dumpster fire but I am staying on the Fran train, 10 wins in year one at this program isn’t something minor, or lucky, or whatever nonsense the bandwagoners are spewing now
can I get an amen?!

Dino was great at Bowling Green.

Shrug.
Fran was great w Dinos players & like 2 of his own.

Anyhow, just beat BC & be competitive against the others.

McCord, Meeks, Weatherspoon, Diggs, Devin Grant, Tank, Lewis, Watson. Just off top my head, seems a bit more than two players. Is Fran not allowed to play any players he didn't recruit?

Plus - OGII, Wax, and Barron were all out the door, except -
Fran got them to stay.

It’s not ‘only’ who he brought in,
it’s also keeping the guys you want to keep.

Fran did both.

This season is a write off, now.

We need to focus on talent acquisition and retention so we can have a kickazz 2026.
And beyond.

Bob turned around salve, assumption and holy cross before jmu . He’s a good coach. Objectively so. I know players who played w him. He’s a pied piper

He’s on the urban Meyer path. Comes from a football family.

He was a better hire here and at bc. He wouldn’t take this job now anyway.

He will go to the BIG next or a better ACC TEAM

I sure hope he's successful when he gets a big time job or you're going to have some crow to eat. Bill Brasky's buddies think you get carried away with the way you talk about Bob Chesney.

I wonder how 2024 Syracuse would have looked with Matthew Sluka at QB instead of McCord?…. And no OG3, Allen(they absolutely would have transferred), Meeks, Diggs and a bunch of other guys who would have bailed. Answer: bad
I guess the counter would be how would they look this year with a more proven system in place? Both guys have question marks.

I’m fine owning it. If I end up in internet jail not sure how I’ll come back.

He’s a good coach. Not sure why this is a weird or controversial take. Better than Fran too. Fran is a recruiter and that’s a massive need at a lower program. Just think u need to recruit entire roster and scheme up at a place like Syracuse

I don't think any here every said Fran was a batter head coach then Chesney.
Fran is the best recruiter in the nation, he has learned from some of the best coaches in the nation, and has a huge upside.
These are the hires Syracuse needs to make. He has transformed the culture in sort time and kids are excited to come to Syracuse and it's not a backup school.
Happy that Chesney is having a great year but Fran had a great year last year.
Chesney's foundation was also light years ahead of what Fran inherited.

Well let’s say 2024 was a meh at best season with Chesney, would he have the NIL? How would he recruit? He’s a very good coach and he was my number two guy behind Cignetti when Dino got fired, so I am not knocking Bob, just to be clear. Fran is less experienced and needs to make more staff changes. Most important, he needs two competent QBs and all will be ok (plus retain guys and get some portal help of course)

Cignetti brought thirteen players with him to IU. JMU had 64 new players last year, 54 this year.

You can continue to follow him there or wherever he goes to your delight

Foundation as in the program in general was moving in the right direction, has a ton of support from the AD and the locals.
Players yes 100% know they moved around, as all schools do. Two different things.

I thought you were speaking of the nucleus of the team which would be the logical basis for a 1-2 year comparison. Anyway SU outspends JMU $25 to 11 million in football. Also, when Wildhack spoke at my 50th anniversary in October 2023 he said Dino was running an "ascendant" football program that had put in place the foundation for success. Six weeks later Dino was gone.
Btw I fully get it Chesney will never coach at SU and fully support Fran Brown because he's our coach. Charting the trajectories of their careers will be interesting though.

No, I follow JMU pretty closely as I'm not to far from them.
I guess my overall point being the culture was there and it was more of a dumpster fire here.

Sure will but I went to SU and root for SU. Is it weird to have a different opinion on a hc that is contrary to others? I respect others who think he may not be good. Totally acceptable. Why we go to message boards

I also respect others who think in an objective fashion but at the end of the day it is still opinion, potential conjecture and most importantly results based. I still try to be objective however I certainly I trust have orange glasses especially if tilted towards the student athlete. Certainly difficult in this day and age... however thank you

Cignetti coached at Elon and JMU and is having tremendous success at Indiana. If you can coach well... You can coach at any level.

At this point I would rather have a team of well coached 3 stars than poorly coached 3s and 4s.
I'll be surprised if Cignetti can keep this up long-term at Indiana. He is a good coach and was great at JMU. With all the player turnover these days, his style with his players won't matter. Suffice to say, he was not well-liked by many at JMU. But damn, he could coach.

A good friend on the hiring committee was excited he was leaving because he was concerned that a lot of things would have imploded had he stayed much longer.
