Don't really agree these days unless we luck into an NFL caliber QB that can lift everything else up. That guy can get us into the top 25 for a year or 2 as Dungey managed. He leaves and everything went back in the crapper. We're certainly not going to be a top 25 program "year in and out" unless recruiting improved fairly significantly and got us into at least the mid-pack of the ACC more than once every 3 or 4 years. You need to pile up multiple years of "good" classes on top of each other in order to build ACC quality depth that can withstand inevitable injuries.Yup. I've always pointed out that every year, the final top 25 is loaded with teams that recruit similarly to us. Class recruit rankings in the 40+ range. You want to be a year in, year out top 5 team with national title aspirations, you better regularly land that handful of 5 star, and 4 star guys...but I don't think many Cuse fans expect that. Most reasonable people would like to see a team that is ranked in the top 25 year in and out, and getting 8+ wins. We can absolutely do that with our recruiting, as long as we get the coaching staff that develop that talent.
At the end of the day, it's hard to overlook the direct correlation between our ACC recruiting class rankings and our ACC conference record.
