Doug Marrone comes upon driver stuck in snow

You're beef is with DG and the BOT for not getting a deal signed earlier in the fall.

Of course it is, Marrone is never to blame about anything.

Crystal balls and predictions are nice but 2012 was the only year that the offense made a difference. And that was with the 4 standout seniors. Without them, there is no guarantee. And Allen with our crop of players was no slam dunk. I don't know how many QBs someone has said we finally have a QB that will shine and it just doesn't work out.

I already said that the offense almost assuredly would have regressed.

The offense wasn't just those four guys. 3/5ths of the OL came back, the rest of receiving unit and TE's came back. All the running backs. They still had a top 40 rushing attack.

McDonald came into a situation coming off of a top 20 offensive season. Marrone inherited an offense that had been 115th, 110th, 114th, 114th the four years previously and had to start from scratch. It took three seasons to build it to a point where it "made a difference" (whatever that means), wow what a surprise.

I didn't think blame was an issue, you said it yourself.

That deal gets signed who knows what happens.

I'm pissed the program is where it is today, and there is more than enough blame to go around, and they all own part of it.

Would it have been better if Hackett was still here, no doubt. I also think that some of those guys that went to Buffalo would have been replaced by the band.

A deal with Marrone? Him leaving had nothing to do with his deal or contract which he already knew what it was going to be including an increase.

Anyone wonder if Doug Marrone knew this and left when he knew the iron was hot and also knew that it would cool quickly?

Looks like he has moved into #2 on their depth chart. Little playing time, pretty sure in garbage time, but has played in all 10 games.

He's only #2 because Matt Joekel suffered a season ending knee injury during the Texas Tech game. They've got 2 true freshmen they brought in the 2014 class that are redshirting. The rest of the guys on that depth chart are walk-ons from what I can tell.

Again, I'm curious to see what becomes of him once Boykin is gone.

I have zero knowledge of this mysterious deal situation, but I also have zero doubt he'd have still bailed.

He left SU high and dry because he's an ambitious football coach. That's what they do.

Was it signed?

Nope. Only agreed to. Him leaving had nothing to do with his contract. You could even ask him and he'd say as much.

absolutely right, signed/unsigned what have you he was gone. He was an ambitious head coach who completely defrauded everyone with the notion that he was a lifer. I fell for it b/c I NEVER thought he would sniff an NFL HC job with the job he did at Syracuse. Let's be honest here, Pasqualoni's achievements would have merited the Cowboys head coaching job over Switzer with the job he did for the first 5 years on the job. Not Marrone merely going to weak sauce bowl games. P's worst teams in in the 90s would have gone to those bowls had there been a bowl that took 7-4 type teams at that point.

I'll look forward to him being back as the faux Offensive Coordinator of the Saints when he's canned this year/next year by the Bills. He's not a guy a new owner is going to hang his hat on.

I didn't say he left because of the terms that had been worked out.

But it's one thing to walk with a deal on the table another to walk two months after signing an extension.

You continually argue against things I've never claimed.

Why would anyone have ever thought that?

If your point is "How dumb could you be to listen to some jock whisper sweet nothings in my ear" you are 100% right. I was defrauded and probably because I was naive.

I've been lulled into a false sense of security from Boeheim and Pasqualoni. Two guys who never went to where the grass was green when they could have.

Trust me, I'll never make that mistake again.

And you assume 2 months earlier he would have signed. He didn't sign anything because he had issues with staying. And even if he signed the extension, he would have left. You must think there would be a $10m buyout.

And I didn't claim you said he left because of the terms worked out. I argued your claim that if we had somehow made him sign the deal earlier he'd somehow stay. The terms were in place, it was his decision not to sign it.

Marrones words. Not just the "dream job" but the everything I have done and every job I have taken was to prepare myself to be the SU coach. Or the binders and the info he had been collecting on high school recruits even as an NFL coach, because again, the end goal was SU.

#2 QB on the #5 team in the country, but no gty he would be any better than what we have here now.

Good lord.
Like x 1000. Allen was our next big thing. Hate that we lost him. He would be entrenched here for years to come...

Another Allen was #2 on a top 10 team and came here and it didn't work out. Unless you're talking about an Andrew Luck type talent, nobody knows how it would have worked out. He may not have been any better than what we have now.

Sorry Rick, I have enormous respect for you but there is a helluva lot of back story and context that is being left out. This guy wanted to stay and gave Cuse every opportunity to stay. TGD messed this up big time with his incompetence and lack of character. Check around.

The post I was responding to was about him being a lifer and his intentions upon his hire. Why he left had nothing to do with his contract or money. I don't agree that he "wanted" to stay. You are correct that Marrone and TGD didn't get along and their relationship, no matter who was at fault, contributed to him leaving. But he hated recruiting, he hated fundraising, he hated kissing people's asses and his lack of respect for TGD made those it a much easier decision.
