I love and miss the Big East more than most. I would go back tomorrow if it was up to me. Even the current Big East. With that said, I think scheduling BE games during the regular season is really a bad move. Now I hear we are considering UCONN. Playing three more rivalry games during the regular season is tournament suicide. No matter how bad they maybe on a given year, St Johs and GT this year, they will always be toss up games. If you lose them, like this year, they are considered bad loses. GT, St Johns, and UCONN are never bad losses to SU. Especially now with the BE teams more motivated than ever to beat us. I think it is time to say farewell to regular scheduled BE games. IMO, we would be safely in if we did not play St. Johns and GT, even with the UCONN win in the early season tourny.

We'd be WAY ahead of Oregon State in Lunardi's bracket if we had played and beat some cupcakes instead...I know that much!

Well playing Montana State and Texas Southern definitely doesn't help. I think the plan was that we could beat St. Johns and Georgetown. Plan didn't work.

agree. i more than most hated the move to the acc but now that it's over let's just drop the whole rundrogian rivalry CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS thing and cut all ties to the old conference. they're killing us.

Play Nova alternating home games every year. Perennial top 20 team. Philly is prime recruiting territory. We don't need St.Johns, schedule anyone we want in MSG and have better seats available to our fan base. We don't need Georgetown. The glory and glamour wore off a while ago. Most of all we don't need to play UConn. They have no recruiting territory. Helps them more than us. The ACC schedule plus Nova, plus early tournaments provide plenty of top 25 games.

As a fan, I feel like the SU-UConn games are almost always good though. I'd say it's the matchup that has provided the most enjoyable and memorable games for us in the 2000's. Both teams get after it, UConn actually tries to play and score rather than bleeding the clock and beating us up, and we more than win our share. This year's game was one of our more fun to watch games of the season.

In a college game where more and more of the games are just horrible to watch, this matters to me a lot.

Yes the problem was definitely playing St Johns and Georgetown, each of which had a losing record this season. JFC.
I mean...really? Those teams blow. Better get them off the schedule!

Yeah, why does stuff like recruiting ground or conference affiliation have to be factored in? How about we play Uconn because it would probably be a good game?

Our Big East reunion record isn't exactly stellar so far. It's nice to catch an extra game but I don't see the point of being someone else's Super Bowl. We play Duke, UNC, NC, UVa, UL, Pitt and up and coming ACC programs, B1G challenge. It's plenty.

Meh. I'm sure that's the way Bonaventure saw our game.

Then how about we start playing better!

By the way remember how the Charlottes, Drexels, Bucknells, Wichita and Cleveland States of the world worked out for us the last time we were in mediocreville. I'd rather play and lose to St. Johns and Georgetown then not play them because we are afraid of losing and lose to random mid majors.

They're down the street and we always win. We don't play them in their gym.

So playing Bonaventure in their gym would be too much to ask?

I really couldn't care less how jacked up Gtown was. If we can't beat a 15-18 Hoya squad, that's an "us" problem.

Frankly it's kind of embarrassing that this is a legit topic of discussion.

Agreed...if we were good some year and let's say GTown is good...it could, ya know, help our seed.

Remember the nonstop OOC discussions the past 10 years? Just win games.

Having the coaching staff ripped apart 48 hours before that game, with little or no warning, did not help.

Our coach got suspended 2 days before that game. In fairness that one should be a mulligan

Outside of BC there is not bottom half of our league. So 16 games, a B1G and a preseason tourney is pretty demanding on it's own.

Duke, UL, UNC, UVa...those guys are really good. Beat them and some OOC doesn't matter.

JB said he'll go back there. Why? It's pointless.

Then if that's why we lost, we should have nothing to worry about going forward.
