Drop Big East Games

Outside of BC there is not bottom half of our league. So 16 games, a B1G and a preseason tourney is pretty demanding on it's own.

Largely because we were in the bottom half this year.

Boston College, Wake and NC State were all pretty bad this season.

I'd be fine(no pun intended) with either preference espoused here, as both sides have valid points. I do like the below solution though:

Yeah, I'm in the camp of playing them and beating them into Bolivian.

Beating them into Bolivian is indeed more fun than sending them to Belize, and certainly proves more. Hopefully your comrades will understand what I'm saying.

Then if that's why we lost, we should have nothing to worry about going forward.

It's their Super Bowl. Not ours. Again we play a plenty tough schedule without piling on.

I get that I am in the board minority on this one.

Sure.

Then why be afraid of them going forward?
Never said w should be. Just that there was a major extenuating circumstance involved in the GTown game.

Duke, UL, UNC, UVa...those guys are really good. Beat them and some OOC doesn't matter.

Been saying that forever. When we were in the BE and we played 12-14 very competitive games each season then who cares who we played in December (cue the Dicky V whining). Kinda like the SEC in football- I really don't care that Auburn chooses to play some ridiculous cupcake one time a year when 6-7 of their other games are flat out wars. These tough regular season schedules in the power conferences provide plenty of material to base an evaluation.

So playing Bonaventure in their gym would be too much to ask?

I really couldn't care less how jacked up Gtown was. If we can't beat a 15-18 Hoya squad, that's an "us" problem.

Frankly it's kind of embarrassing that this is a legit topic of discussion.

We may have been G'town's "Super Bowl", but they should be our Super Bowl as well. Not sure why we keep trying to force the UL or Duke "rivalry".

Why? They are falling into mid major land. They have no fans and their program is floundering. Duke and UL, no issues with that there.

Personally, I think we should just worry about winning the games we are supposed to win. However, some of these games have turned into lose-lose propositions. If we win, it's because we are supposed to win and the game doesn't really count for much and if we lose, obviously we lose.

Losing to Georgetown this year sucked, but given the circumstances and quality of opponent, at least what I perceived at them time, I could live with it. But to St. John's?! That was literally the worse lose I can ever remember; an absolute horrendous loss. Fordham, NJIT, DePaul and Incarnate Word beat them! They were 1-17 in the "Big East." Why are we helping St. John's out by scheduling them? Play a game at MSG against a decent mid-level national opponent and leave St. John's to wallow in their own waste. Playing them only gives recruits in the region the idea that St. John's is relevant and should be considered an option.

Having the coaching staff ripped apart 48 hours before that game, with little or no warning, did not help.

Still, to be honest, we looked overmatched at every position in those games.

Yes the problem was definitely playing St Johns and Georgetown, each of which had a losing record this season. JFC.

Gtown rpi wise isn't even that bad, I think they are 104, not horrid. The St Johns game, I just frankly can't wrap my head around.

Maybe Cuse projects SJU to be on the rise over time and for this season not to be be the norm? Maybe...just maybe all of this BE stuff is due to some sort of backlash, perceived or otherwise, from the abandonment of the Big East, and feeling some old relatively old school fans may feel less BE withdrawal and be more forgiving of the school, being the ACC has been slow to develop any rivalries? I could say Pitt, but we're honestly not fit to be called their rivals. ;)

RPI aside, we lost to both of those teams, along with losing to the closest thing to a rival, Pitt, 3 times. Sure, scheduling may be important, but just winning is more important. Be grateful for the BE team we actually beat, who may play a decent part of helping us sneak in the door if they win their conference's title belt.

Blame SteveHolt for me being riled right now.

Uh, perhaps because they are actually good teams, currently relevant, and WHO WE PLAY AGAINST IN THE SAME CONFERENCE EVERY YEAR?

I love to hate Georgetown, and always will.
It's 7:44am - AND GEORGETOWN STILL SUCKS.

But - they are becoming increasingly irrelevant, play in a mid-major conference, and haven't done a thing in the post-season since JTII roamed the sidelines.
SU, Llvll, and Duke all have HOF coaches, who have had recent post-season success.
G-town? Not so much. :p

People hated the schedule when we played all cupcakes, now people hate the schedule because we don't play all cupcakes.

Personally, I am fine playing cupcakes with the annual Big Ten challenge team and the every couple year preseason tournament.

Go 12-0 to begin each year against any teams and I am fine with that. Our conference losses aren't what is going to keep us out of the tournament this year. It's loses to two teams that could have easily been replaced by SUNY schools on our schedule with no one really complaining.

I love and miss the Big East more than most. I would go back tomorrow if it was up to me. Even the current Big East. With that said, I think scheduling BE games during the regular season is really a bad move. Now I hear we are considering UCONN. Playing three more rivalry games during the regular season is tournament suicide. No matter how bad they maybe on a given year, St Johs and GT this year, they will always be toss up games. If you lose them, like this year, they are considered bad loses. GT, St Johns, and UCONN are never bad losses to SU. Especially now with the BE teams more motivated than ever to beat us. I think it is time to say farewell to regular scheduled BE games. IMO, we would be safely in if we did not play St. Johns and GT, even with the UCONN win in the early season tourny.

Couldn't disagree more. Outside of like Duke or UNC in the Dome, I think our games against old Big East rivals are the most exciting part of our schedule.

Still like to play annual games with these aforementioned teams, but only scheduling one of them any given year. That avoids the worst case scenario that occurred this year in losses to both the Johnnies and Hoyas.

or we could've beat one of them?
