I still can't figure this Duke team out.
You are not alone!I still can't figure this Duke team out.
Everyone does better? This was their first loss. Granted we were completely incompetent vs them last year. One of the worst displays of football I have ever seen by SU and sadly (for me anyway) I am old enough to have seen hundreds. I am sure we will have a better "D" game plan next time we face them.I can't figure out why everybody does better against Georgia tech than we do.
wofford was within a point at halftime and it took a miracle for them to beat GA Southern. We were uniquely and particularly awful against them.Everyone does better? This was their first loss. As for Duke, they don't beat themselves. Was at the game and they play a safe but solid game. Their "D" confused Tech inside the red zone. A throw back to our bend but don't break teams of the past. That and Tech's turnovers and dumb penalties cost Tech the game.
Last year they won their side of the conference. Duke is solid and sneaks under the radar yet. They also had a bye week to get healthy and prepare for Tech.
Not excusing SU's wretched game plan last year but to be fair Duke plays that GT throwback offense every year
I agree, but... there is usually a "but"... two different teams entirely and 2 very different staffs of coaches. Someone else explained it as playing them all the time is an extremely valuable help. Its like our zone "D" in basketball for teams that haven't faced it before. The style is so different and your practice squad can't come close to emulating it. So I have great hopes that we will do better in the future.I was referring not only to last year but to Paul Pasqualoni's last stand, when we gave up 51 points to a GT team averaging 19. You might as well throw in the 2001 loss.
It's all about coaching and Duke has a great staff.I still can't figure this Duke team out.
