Duke -7.5 over Cuse…..

Duke didn't look impressive on either end yesterday. If our defense is clicking like it was yesterday, Duke is not going to put up many points. Even if we are minus 2 in the turnover battle, we should have more than enough points to win it

Lol Angeli isn't worth 10pts to the line I promise you.
Duke is just one of those teams the hedge fund type bettors love. Moved the ball vs Illinois, killed themselves. But I mean ya, that doesn't look like such a good L anymore.
Exactly. The same Illinois team that just got boat raced by Indiana.

At the risk of getting flamed, our defense did give up over 500 yards, including 363 to a not overly accurate Klubnick. Mensah has been very accurate and Duke will be a challenge to shut down. We’ll need Collins to be close to Angeli to get the w.

Dont forget the 12th man

I guess if you take out that he threw an 18 yard touchdown to give us a 20 point lead, so after that the absolute critical thing was to not make a mistake (turnover) that gave Clemson a chance - that would make sense.

I don’t take much positive or negative from the fourth quarter offensively. Play calling was extremely conservative, and the main goal for Collins was “don’t screw this up”. Maybe Collins will be good, maybe he’ll be terrible - anyone that thinks anything in the fourth quarter qualifies as evidence either way is reaching. (For clarity, I don’t think the 18 yard TD is evidence either).

I did like that his first throw was that back shoulder TD. And that he threw it on a rope in a good spot where it had no shot at being picked off.

Not flaming, but once a game reaches close out status, you can't really look at yards allowed. They played a quarter and a half in hurry up, and we were playing softer to keep from getting beaten over the top. We were happy to give 7 yard catches and make the tackle. We were essentially trading yards for elapsed time.

Yep on the trade.

ESPN's FPI is showing Cuse with a 62.3% chance to win. Not sure if the QB factor is accounted into that, but to see Duke -7 definitely seems off.

And despite the 2nd half yards, they still only scored once.

The issue with viewing this as only an end of game thing is the game stats don’t support it. We gave up 237 yards in the first half which works out to 474 yards for a full game. And through three quarters we gave up 364 yards which equates to 485 yards for the game. We eventually gave up 503 yards. The defense gave up a lot of yards all game long - we really traded yards for eliminating big plays all game. Which makes sense when considering we had a double digit lead most of the game - giving up yards when you’ve got a two or more score lead isn’t the end of the world.

I don’t think yards allowed from this game is much of a predictor of future performance - other than we’ll likely give up a lot of yards in very small increments if we get an early multi-score lead which we sustain all game again.

all those 2nd half yds they got

31 yd drive
31 yd drive
23
2
42
81 with TD
23
35

thats a lot of yds that went no where

What really helped them was volume of drives because we didnt do much to avoid giving the game away

they had 3 drives over 45 yds
we had 5 drives over 45 yds before Steve got hurt

We really won the special teams battle yesterday...punter was excellent! Clemson started the vast majority of its drives where they had to go the "length of the field" to score.

True, and in this defensive situation, short completions are actually PREFERABLE to incompletions. You let them catch short passes that take 20 seconds.

We played it correctly

Duke's defense is brutally bad. I think we'll boat race them.

Obvi Duke's has an offense and a legit QB, but I trust our Secondary more than anything else we have right now.

I also would argue Cuse and Duke have both played 1 top 25 team. Duke got hammered by Illinois at their place, We got hammered by Tennessee in Atlanta. Only difference is that Tennessee is a missed FG away from being a top 10 team if they beat GA and don't choke and that Illinois team that hammered Duke just lost by 50 to Indiana.

Had to read the line 3 times, as I was sure that the + and - weren't switched.

Duke is 2-2, with wins over Elon and NC State, with losses to Illinios (blowout loss) and Tulane. Not exactly a strong resume to justify this. Our starting QB is out, but being at home in a sellout, makes the line really strange. Angeli being out is the only possible reason for this line. Still seems like a huge overreaction.

Let's light up the Blue Devils and run it down their throats.

I don't bet but -7.5 looked like a good bet
If I was the type to bet on college football I would bet on that line. Duke would not have stayed with either Tennessee or Clemson, Nixon, Fran, and Erob will find a way to make Duke wish they hadn't been on our schedule this year.
