Is there a point where the NFL steps in to address this? They are being priced out of their own market. Rookie deals are not worth this much.LOL. College sports is an obscene joke.
Thank goodness the NFL plays this weekend.
I hear you, but if this plays well for Duke and for Mensah, this may prompt more multi-year contracts and that could be a good way for HS recruiting to matter again. If I'm a HS QB there's no reason to ever sign with Miami.
I doubt it. The fate of the NFL does not hinge on whether guys like Dante Moore declare for the draft or not. I'm sure Goodell care little if college eats itself, as long as the pipeline of players remains constant. Is there a point where the NFL steps in to address this? Per Pete Nakos of ON3 [see post #35] there is no buyout clause. Per Pete Thamel Duke owns his NIL rights. The rumor is that Duke had a buyout clause... so Miami just needs to pay the buyout. Duke gets the $4M and no recourse. Miami waited to last minute to prevent Duke from getting someone else. Guess what? Miami plays Duke next year. Kills two birds...
With a union and CBA you can.You can't cap NIL. No sport does and the Supreme Court already said you can't (the old cap was $0). Congress is NOT going to do anything with NIL and it would probably be ruled unconstitutional.
I’d be surprised if Duke hasn’t already sued in NC state court.Per Pete Nakos of ON3 [see post #35] there is no buyout clause. Per Pete Thamel Duke owns his NIL rights.
Who does it sue? Mensah or Miami, or both? If Miami might have to be in a Florida court.I’d be surprised if Duke hasn’t already sued in NC state court.
Mensah first, for a TRO barring him from having anything to do with Miami football. I’m also inclined to think Duke wouldn’t have much difficulty getting jurisdiction over Miami in NC.Who does it sue? Mensah or Miami, or both? If Miami might have to be in a Florida court.
GRob also lost some of the few SU football wins he achieved.Man really good thing the NCAA took away wins from JB because of Fab Melos paper and suspended Edelin bc he played in a rec league. That is nothing compared to this!
NCAA is a joke. This is insane at this point. Like literally insane. And it makes even worse that Cristobal thinks he’s so tough and such a great coach. God I hope Indiana kills them Monday night
I doubt they're as smart as Duke.Mensah first, for a TRO barring him from having anything to do with Miami football. I’m also inclined to think Duke wouldn’t have much difficulty getting jurisdiction over Miami in NC.
Btw Miami very well may have begun its own lawsuit in FL.
All of the P4 schools should go after the "U".Mensah first, for a TRO barring him from having anything to do with Miami football. I’m also inclined to think Duke wouldn’t have much difficulty getting jurisdiction over Miami in NC.

At the symphony now and not nearly drunk enough to go into detail, but this is the moment someone should go nuclear and make this a brutal legal battle.I doubt they're as smart as Duke.
Enjoy the symphony. Agree. Almost happened with the University of Washington QB last week but he backed down. I doubt Duke would take Mensah back. Should just sue and keep him from playing and harm whatever NFL career he might have had. He really did them dirty in multiple ways.At the symphony now and not nearly drunk enough to go into detail, but this is the moment someone should go nuclear and make this a brutal legal battle.
I think that must be misstated. Might be his revenue sharing rights that are restricted but NIL in theory has nothing to do with the school, right?Per Pete Nakos of ON3 [see post #35] there is no buyout clause. Per Pete Thamel Duke owns his NIL rights.
Thanks for the reference to the article (I hadn't heard about it). But I am not impressed with what Wildhack said in it. He didn't go near far enough and it likely will be ignored. Sounded like warm oatmeal.College football is an absolute joke. The NCAA caused all this, they fought and fought to keep the amateur model and to tell players what spread they are allowed to be given on a bagel. Not that the schools are innocent either. The ESPN article about what Wildhack had to say nails everything the sport needs to do (make players employees and collectively bargain and negotiate one huge TV deal for the entire P4).
I'm not sure I believed in the potential of my question either, but you kinda said what I was thinking to ask it in the first place.I doubt it. The fate of the NFL does not hinge on whether guys like Dante Moore declare for the draft or not. I'm sure Goodell care little if college eats itself, as long as the pipeline of players remains constant.
Hell, the pettiness of the NFL is why they kept games on a Saturday to trample CFB's first round playoff ratings.
It might depend on the contract. But I get what you're saying.I think that must be misstated. Might be his revenue sharing rights that are restricted but NIL in theory has nothing to do with the school, right?
I'm confused too. I thought the ENTIRE PREMISE behind NIL was that a player owns his Name, Image, and Likeness, and is eligible to profit from it. I can only assume that Duke may own a portion of his NIL as long as he's in Duke apparel or something?I think that must be misstated. Might be his revenue sharing rights that are restricted but NIL in theory has nothing to do with the school, right?
He only lost 5, I think. Then again, that was half his winsGRob also lost some of the few SU football wins he achieved.
