Idk I said earlier in this thread that I'd easily take perennial board whipping boy Joe Girard over him this year. He's nowhere near the player that we thought we were getting.
Can say this about everyone that came in on this roster outside of Judah and Bell.

It's not like Taylor is a lockdown defender out there. He holds his own, more or less. His rebounding is ok, too, but nothing special. He's not a good passer either. He doesn't really do anything to justify playing 25 to 30 minutes per game. I mean, like I said before, 2.7 ppg against P6 competition (in a large enough sample size) is absolutely atrocious for a starter playing the minutes he does.
And it’s still better than the alternatives.

i think he is capable of doing more just way too deferential

he's a player that ...like many others on the team...suffers from lack of an actual offensive scheme aside from 1 on 1 plays

He is justified in playing that many minutes because who is behind is worse or not reliable enough to take the minutes away from him. Like I said Taylor is an issue but so many more on the current roster/team that people should be focused on.

He was really bad in Hawaii on both sides of the court and I am not saying Taylor isn't an issue but there are bigger issues with the team as constructed that people should be complaining about. Taylor is on the list but not top 5.
its not hawaii...its good teams

do you want him on the roster next year?

what do you think this team's record is this year if no JJ and Joe was still here?

Depends his role. I would hope he would have been recruited over last off-season but that didn't happen and one of the bigger issues when compared to Taylor.

Benny is a headcase and probably doesn't deserve to play much more than Taylor, but at least he has proved multiple times to be a competent offensive weapon against P6 competition. Taylor has literally zero evidence that he can be anything more than a body on the court against the big boys. I won't take issue with the notion that the options are pretty terrible either way.

see i dont care what his role is...even off the bench he doesnt bring enough to the table

no room for timidity in basketball

Benny cant be counted to even be on the team tomorrow let alone be a consistent offensive weapon for the team.

The funny thing is, I don't really know if it would be much better or better at all. Our problems extend beyond JJ and I'm not sure having Girard makes us turn 20 point blowout losses into wins somehow. I just know that he'd at least provide a reliable outside shooting threat and we wouldn't have two guards who play more or less the same style of offense. Would hopefully open things up a bit more for Judah, at least.

Both true statements. Also a true statement that Justin Taylor cannot play against P6 opponents. 2.7 ppg.

I think there’s a difficulty for some fans to admit they were wrong about the situation.

Like I said I think Taylor can and should be recruited over and should have been last offseason. Of the team's issues right now he isn't top 5 for me.

PPG for a guy who can't or isn't relied on to get his own shot isn't really important to me (especially in an ISO offense). If he had the ball in his hands a ton and put up a ton of shots then I would be concerned with his ppg. Right now on the year he is averaging 6.6 pts a game on 6.9 shots a game.

Benny is averaging 5.4 ppg on 4.6 shots per game
Bell is averaging 10.3 ppg on 10.4 shots per game.

Both things can be true: Joe's 3 point shooting would be a big boost to this team offensively, but the rest of his game would continue to be a big negative. A black hole with the ball, prone to taking 27 foot "heat checks" at the worst time, not much of a passer, and a terrible defender.

He’s been better across the board than every player we have outside of Maliq and Judah. It’s not like our guards have been great defensively. I knew I should have stayed away from this, but the stats are there for everyone to see. I’m not sure why people suggest otherwise. This is the least amount of production we’ve got from the shooting guard position I can remember going back to Louis McCroskey.

yeah taylor "puffed" his stats up vs the creampuffs

hes averaging like 1 pt per game in the losses...his disappearing acts are an important issue

a starter who doesnt deserve to start is not in your top 5?

ok - what is your top 5 then????????????

enough is enough with these blowout losses...

dont wanna rag on any of the players

but everything should be on the table at this point...

if changing the starters helps the team win, then do it. feelings or promises be damned.

and yeah...in the portal era...gotta start thinking about next year's roster too.

it is what it is.

JT and Bell should not be on the court at the same time. They are obvious subs for each other
Battle for occupants of space time of the year award.

Benny has played 69 career games and scored double figures 12 times and had 3 games with double digit rebounds.

Taylor has played 43 games, scored double digits 8 times and had double digit rebounds once.

Bell has played 44 games and scored double digit points 14 times.

The board thinks Benny is better than he is. He’s just as inconsistent as the other guys.
When was the last time JT did something on the court that caught your eye unexpectedly and made you think .. “hmm , that was impressive , where’s that been?” Benny does something like that every game . I’ve never had that experience with the Mike Hargrove of shot mechanics

If all those things that you say about him are true, then how is he able to start and play literally the most minutes of anyone on the 16th ranked team in the country that only plays man to man? But he’s not good enough for our roster?
