Duke's Kara Lawson says men's ball used in 1st half vs. FSU

it does make you wonder..

one: in the times i used those balls, they were labeled. do they not any more?
two: anyone who plays a decent amount can tell the difference in just a couple bounces.
three: why did it take a whole half for someone to complain or ask about it?
looks like they use the Nike Elite ball

How the heck does this happen? That's pathetic

Makes no sense...Why didn't anyone say anything. Coaches, Refs, Players, anyone at game...
It's obvious to anyone who plays with the smaller ball all year long then someone throws them the larger men's ball. Of course it wouldn't happen in a men's game because they must be the only sex that can decipher the difference and say something.

Only complained because they lost. If you've played enough, you know when you're using a woman's ball.

Lawson complaining about something, color me surprised!

I’ve always been able to tell the first time I catch a basketball, if it’s a women’s ball or not. If you play basketball, it’s incredibly obvious. Even now, many years after I have played basketball every day, it’s still quickly very obvious.

Obviously it’s not on the level of a baseball vs. softball where you can tell just by looking. But it’s not that far off in terms of feel.

This is an incredibly bizarre story and I highly question if any Duke players said anything or not. A shady coach might hold onto that info until it’s useful…..

How much would the average FT% and 3pt% improve for pro-level (High D1, G-League, NBA) male athletes if they used the smaller ball? Perhaps it would drop during an initial acclimation period, but I’d have to believe it would ultimately be a boon.

So Duke's women's coach Lawson claims the first half of their game vs FSU was erroneously played with a men's ball.
OK. Maybe? I don't know about you, but I can tell a women's basketball from a regulation men's in about a nanosecond yet I'm supposed to believe a bunch of D1 players who use the ball every day didn't notice or were afraid to point this out. Just weird.

Uhhhh what lol yeah if you ever played a lick of ball in your life the difference is so obvious. And you gotta love the headline “this would never happen in a men’s game”….. huh??? What does that have to do with anything

As I said in women’s board… it’s impossible nobody would have figured that out within 1 minute.
Well it said in the article it has happened before in another game. I find it hard to believe, but apparently it did happen. Are we really suppose to believe it didn’t happen and this is just all made up?

Let’s assume for a minute that it did happen, as bizarre as it may seem. If both teams are playing with it, does either team have an advantage?

On a different note, wouldn’t players immediately complain to their coaches and refs about it? Surely there would be proper women’s balls (so to speak) in the arena.

I thought the refs checked over the game ball before play even begins.

There’s a huge difference between mens and women’s basketballs If they played an entire half with the wrong ball that’s on them. It’s tiny in comparison to the mens. It’s on the officials, coaches and players to screw that up.

Cheriehoop - ladies teams don’t practice with balls typically used by the Mens team, correct? I’m trying to think of a reason this wouldn’t be noticed immediately.

And not use some awkward wording…..

Fwiw- back in HS our girls team practiced with a men's ball occasionally as did the D2 school one of those girls i graduated with played at.

I vaguely recall practicing certain drills with a medicine ball as well on the boys side.

All that said still seems it should have been noticed right away.

Within literally 3 seconds of holding a women’s ball at the gym to shoot 1 shot I can notice it’s not regulation men’s size.

This story is ridiculous, honestly. It’s also such an absurd claim it almost can’t be made up.

Check out College of Charleston 2017 woman’s team.I understand that it easy to distinguish between the two, but apparently it has happened in the past.

If a womens ball was used in a men’s game, there’s a chance all the players would agree to not say anything because they’d be too excited about the potential stat sheet stuffing to commence
